Speech Bubbles

I would really like to see the speech bubbles revisited. With a new Data Center, and new hardware (PS5).

Are we overdue with having speech bubbles. I loved speech bubbles in WoW, and if FFXIV adopts them, maybe just make it party speech only at first.

Eventually if people like it? Maybe have the filters change to /say and /party only. Or /raidleader bubbles

I feel they can really expand this, just add the option outside discord chat. And will really help with Party Finder.

I just miss the chat bubbles making random conversations fun and give my character more emotive feeling.

/party would be the worst place to have them. Having even more screen clutter in the middle of combat sure sounds fun.

First thing i turn OFF, right after the profanity filter, is chat bubbles.

They're distracting. And my wow guild has a policy of not showing them if you're streaming or recording for YouTube, along with no chat being shown and no discord audio.

Party chat would be horrible. Especially with some of the ASCII art macros I've seen used.

If it can't be turned off, I feel it'd inflict more annoyance than add enjoyment.

If it can't be very finely filtered (based on whether one is in combat, whether the speaker is a friend, etc.), I feel it'd be a waste of time.

If it can do both, though, sure -- sounds good.

I didn't want to force it on anyone, but rather give players the option. I don't feel that's to imposing by allowing people to make the choice of speech bubbles, but rather enriching their gaming experience.

Optional features still affect everybody because the dev time spent on an optional feature is dev time not spent on other things.

I came from other MMO's where bubbles are avaliable and I didn't had much of a problem with them, what I have a real hard time is keeping up with people through the chat log. I'd like this feature very much, even if as an option.

I'd LOVE chat bubble option, especially if we can filter the channels.

Reason 1 is that you need to scroll a - lot - for the autoscroll to stop pushing it down... In very busy situations this gets annoying really fast. Reason 2 is combat. I honestly don't feel that my screen is cluttered at all because I disable other player's special effects, and the telegraphs are already VERY obvious... But then, telegraphs are many and sometimes in quick succession, such that sometimes I miss someone calling something on party chat because if I take my eyes off the middle of the screen I'll fail in some mechanic.

A party chat bubble popping in my visible area would help a lot. Reason 3 is that I am a roleplayer and in hectic RPing situations (chat scrolling) it would be a plus to see the chat bubble from someone you're speaking to close to your field of view.

I have the issue as well when the log just get's blasted with comments from FC/Party/emotes/say/sh/yell. I have it filtered but then I lose some of the chat from my FC or linkshell when running in Parties.

If I could have party chat in bubbles, but still see my FC/link chat in the log makes it MUCH cleaner. I want to be engaged with both, but like you said it's more of an RP thing where you can immerse yourself better. As big as FFXIV is, and the huge emphasis on glamour and immersion. I don't think this is a huge ask, but just enrich the game more. Even if it's just purely optional.

The different UI themes is a perfect example. If the team has time for that...then they have time to implement a chat bubble system. I might be presumptuous in saying this, but FFXIV has always valued doing what's much harder vs. what's easy.

Yes, please! I would love speech bubble to be a thing. I can't stand constantly looking at the chat log to talk 1:1 to people in Limsa, etc..
