Can we please be able to put a note for friends?

If possible, can we please have the option to put a note for friends in the friend list? We get to add many players to our friend list and sometimes I forget things about them that I'd prefer to have typed in a note for them. I found this to be very useful in another MMO game and I'd be happy if it was also available in FFXIV.

It would be helpful, but what you can do is make several categories to describe how you met them and assign them that.

I have one for new players, one for unsynced content, one for savage, one for hunters, one for linkshell/free company and one for friends. I find assigning them these categories helps me remember how I know them if it's been a long time. I assign it based on how I found them so linkshell/free company takes priority over the others.

That would be great. I mean, I have several friends who are addicted to change their character names, and every time I got confused, and I end up excluding them from the friends list, because I don't know who they are.

I'd like a general in-game note book feature!

But FL comments would be a good start ^^

If someone on my friends-list takes an extended break, when they come back we can pick right back up where we left off.

This. Runescape had (or has) a feature that will tell you what a friend's previous username was if they decided to change it, and having something like that here would be extremely helpful I think.
As someone with the memory of a goldfish, it gets to be quite a bit distressing trying to remember who someone was or how/where I met them.

Oh wow, I never actually thought of using this feature for this exactly. Thanks, I really should do this too!

I've been wanting this feature for so long! Sometimes I only interact with someone on my friends list once, and then forget how I met them... Or sometimes they were a good friend, but they changed names and I have no idea who they are anymore. Being able to write a note on the friends list would be amazing for that!

I support this suggestion. Like some of the previous replies, I have resorted to creating friend groups (one for those I've met via FC, those I've met via mentorship/NN, those from content like Eurka, HOH and PotD, etc.) It helps when I try to narrow down when remembering who is who. The problem occurs when players change names. In the last two weeks, I ran across three players who are in my friend list and I am sure they changes their names yet I don't know them (one was actually from my FC who switched to another FC).

I know this would be low in impact and low in priority in comparison to the many other stuff that the devs are working on, but this would be a nice QoL.

The most common problem is definitely renames. A lot of people become lalafells and use a lalafell name and there is no chance I know who they are after that.
