Reaper expectations
Will be permanently retiring from tanking upon reapers release. For someone who has never melee dps'ed before...what can i realistically expect playstyle-wise based how dragoon currently operates in similar fashion(melee dps and maiming gear relation).

It's really hard to know what to expect as far as how it will play. Monk and samurai, for example, share gear but don't really share much else so far as gameplay style.
They also seem to still be developing the job and balancing it in with the rest, but we do know a little from interviews they've done. They've confirmed your ghost friend is not a pet, so it won't be like summoner in issuing commands to it. They stated that it will be similar to jobs like monk/ninja/samurai in that by doing your rotation, you'll be building up some sort of job resource that you'll burn up for other big attacks.
Also you can pretty much guarantee that the job will have positional requirements for certain skills considering that all four other melee DPS have to deal with that, though to what degree it will have them is up in the air. It could go anywhere from monk with every move having a positional requirement to ninja with only two moves having a requirement.
They have even said they haven't fully decided if it will be a more damage focused job like samurai or a more support focused job like dragoon. We'll really have to wait to see till the PR tour to know more.

Long queue times. Gonna have to wait till Endwalker to know how Reaper kit works.

The only thing I'd hedge so far is that it won't have some kind of haste. As far as the melee go, we currently have three melee with Hastes and one without, so I figure the new one will have a slower GCD.
As for anything else, it's up in the air.

I think Reaper will play like of mix of DRG, SAM, and DNC. You will have your regular combos that build a gauge that you spend on oGCD attacks similar to SAM. Those attacks will fill another gauge or a charge system that when full lets your transform like DRG does. This will change your basic combo attacks like DNC does. I don't want it to have positonals but it probably will. Might have a DoT on one of your combo enders or something. A self buff you have to keep up that might be on a combo ender. I think unless they give it a debuff similar to NIN's Trick Attack it'll be pure dps like SAM. But all this is speculation.

Based on the trailer, Reaper has a Devil Trigger form. I would speculate based on that and the reveal info itself that it's a builder-spender revolving around Devil Trigger as the payoff burst. Perhaps it will be similar to how DRG's BotD and LotD work, or perhaps it will be similar to Summoner's trances in architecture (that being, building up from blank to pet to Devil Trigger).
Go back and fight Ranjit as well, I expect some of Reaper to be based on him due to similarity of themes, trade Voidsent for Dragon and he's a Reaper through and through.

one trend Ive noticed, whenever new classes are released they are over powered and/or broken compared to other classes so they will typically be nerfed come the x.1 patch drop. That being said, I think it reasonable to expect Reaper will be broken or overpowered on launch, it will be considered the Chad DPS. Sam mains will cry. Monk Mains will cry. Que times for dps will be even worse.

Isn't there already a thread for that ?

I hope we can customize the voidsent to a couple of different models!

You can expect having long queues and no spot in PF. Enjoy :)
