Someone who has actually upgraded a PS4 slim (not pro) from a HDD to an SSD, was there a noticeable performance increase in hunt trains? I’m thinking about upgrading but don’t care about a 10 second loading time if hunt trains still run like crap

The upgrade would probably be slightly noticeable but not great due to that HW architecture of the regular PS4 compared to the Pro (the original PS4 connects the disc via a USB2-SATA interface while the Pro has a real SATA3 interface).
You would be better off upgrading to a Pro at the very least if that option is available to you. Using the base PS4 (slim or otherwise) at this point is somewhat detrimental to your gameplay, especially where load times are concerned. Doubly so when it comes to hunt trains.
Coming from PS4 to a new gaming pc recently, the PS4 struggles to handle hunt trains even with the SSD. I had decent time running them when the intrest was lower or the train had "vibe checks", but right now trains are extremly popular because of the tome gear upgrades with nuts, and you will have a hard time getting to any of the hunts, let alone touching and smacking the A ranks.
