"slay spotted mudpuppy" task needs to be nixed in a future update

The "Slay a spotted mudpuppy" task for the Factual Folklore quest is extremely difficult. I have done that task at least 10 times on 10 different characters and not once was I able to slay it without dying several times. It is too difficult of a task to be required so early in the game.

I understand and I know that I have to use the item. Thing is, that item has a four second cast timer which is frequently interrupted by the mudpuppy multiple times. It requires multiple attempts in order for the item to be successfully used—by then, you are almost dead.

You cannot not let it aggro you as as soon as you interact with the purple cloud "destination" and wait the "waiting" cast bar, the mudpuppy instantly aggros you preventing use of the required item. Setting the item on your hotbar can reduce the number of attempts needed, but you still take mad damage before the item is successfully used.

If the character that I am playing is a designated tank or healer, I am often level 50 by the time that I need to do that task as I grind leveling roulette's adventurer in need for company seals—and still that task is difficult


This task needs to be removed as it is almost impossible to do this without dying. I have seen streamers who are new at the game party up with others just to do that task.

You have a chocobo by that level (assuming you SHOULD be getting your grand company access and mount access after MSQ ifrit fight). The mechanic is meant to test you as a means to understand how mechanics work. It uses orange aoe's or cones. That's your opening to use the key item.

Put it on your hotbar to make it quicker access for when the orange reticle pops up. If still continues to be an issue, ask some fc mates or use /shout ingame for assistance. It's not that difficult to do unless well below undergeared (in which case, farm better gear before challenging it). It doesn't need to be nerfed though for such a low level quest with next to no difficulty (other than common sense and no understanding of your skills). Most streamers are new to xiv, and don't know how to read their skills (which they should've doing anyways. But they usually don't).

There’s always a slight grace period when you start one of those destination fights where the mob, while aggro’d, will not attack you unless you attack it first.

That not being an option, as it is open world you can use your chocobo to tank it, you can have a friend help you with it, you can use a tank stun (5 seconds on low blow) to use the item, repose if on a healer, wait for it to begin using one of its telegraphed aoe attacks. Some other jobs also have actions that can bind or slow it down to give you time to use the item as well.

It’s not a difficult thing to do, plenty of people have succeeded on that quest prior to today. I did it back in 2.0 leveling a white mage.

It's kinda weird that this guy has time for multiple alts and browsing the forum, and farming most of the pre-shb ex mounts but the only classes that he's leveled up more then once are smn, rdm, and wvr.

Edit: nvm he joined a couple months ago, it's just a question of how he already has multiple alts
