Option for adding outlines to nameplates, fly texts, and pop-up texts

The recent update increased the resolution of nameplates, fly texts, and pop-up texts according to the patch notes. This had the unfortunate side effect of slimming down the fonts, and removing their shadowingy. This should become apparent when any affected text is placed against a similarly coloured or cluttered backdrop, where the glance readability is affected negatively.

This significantly decreases my readability of affected texts in the game, and has become an active strain to process. The current workaround involves using DX9 instead of DX11, which prevents the new UI from taking effect. This is not an obvious or good workaround to the issue. I would like an option to bolden and re-add the shadowing of these items so as to not get a headache every time I play the game for an extended period of time.

I agree that the new font is too thin. In your example, one can barely recognize the "i". I hope they will give us a choice or make the new font more readable by adding some shadow or making it bold.

The new font is just awful to look at! Just go into Limsa or your server's "busy town" and you can see a massive junk of jumbled text. Before you could make out names and spot your friends, now it actually physically hurts to look at the text. Please add a way to "bold" the nameplates and fly text, or maybe make them bolder by default.

It doesn't make a difference what color the fonts are, even minions and friends names are hard to read.

The new font is truly awful. I logged into the forums just to see if anyone else had acknowledged this. Please, UI team, don't let this sit. My eyes strain any time I read the nameplates.

yeah this looks really awful specially when in Limsa, I can barely read anyone's name now.

I like that you are actively trying to increase the resolution for UI elements but this isnt it, you need to test it better on multiple resolutions not just 4K (if that was the target you were reaching) because 1440P and 1080P are far more used and seem to have the most problems from what I gathered.

Couldn't have said it better myself. This update to the nameplates has been a gigantic headache for pretty much everyone I know. Hopefully the UI team at least adds the option for players to bold the new fonts, if they so choose.
