And for that matter just give us a bank or something designated specifically to mats, have you seen how many crafters have 3/4 inventory spots full at all times with all their retainers also full?! PLEASE SQUARE

They did.
That's where we got the chocobo saddle bag from.
Their stance is that since it's difficult for them to add more player inventory, they will never add inventory dedicated to a specific thing, they will always give you general all purpose storage instead.
Good move IMO, as not everyone would use space for fish, not everyone crafts and mat storage would be wasted on many players, but everyone would use more inventory space.
If you're having inventory issues you might wanna take another look at why you have so many fish and wether or not you need to keep them all.
Arent something like 95% of the fish useless, aside from maybe leveling CUL desynth? You definitely dont need to be holding on to an inventory full of them.
The fish aren't the problem. They inadequate inventory system is.
How is it inadequate? We've got 140 spaces general inventory on character, 70 spaces general inventory in chocobo saddlebag, 175 spaces general inventory on each of 2 retainers, over 400 spaces of specialized gear inventory in the Armory chest, another 400 spaces of general gear inventory in the glamour dresser, and miscellaneous storage for specific items in the Armoire.
Add all that up - it's a huge amount of inventory.
Before you get into "but muh crafting mats", I'm an omnicrafter. I'm aware of all the different crafting mats in the game. I'm also very aware of how easy and cheap most of them are to obtain on demand as I'm ready to use them.
Players who complain about being perennially gil poor would get rich if they would just sell off all those items they stockpile "just in case" but aren't really using and wait until they actually are ready to use them before they buy/gather. Certainly there are a few materials worth holding onto because they're very rare or fairly expensive but most don't fall into that category. Keep what you're using today and expect to use tomorrow. Get rid of the rest.
The inventory system isn't inadequate. Player inventory management is. If you learn to manage your inventory properly, it's not a problem.
Indeed the players are the problem. I am fishing a lot. And I don't run into inventory issues. I have all my bait in the saddle bag and keep 2 of my 4 inventory pages empty for the fish. I also only have the 2 standard retainers. And I never use release because releasing fish costs time.
