New Player

Hi everyone, I'm a new player who has played a tad of FFXI and every other Final Fantasy to death, except FFXIV. I only just have gotten enough time in my life to do this, and I'm not very good at the whole MMO thing, mostly because I am looking for the more social aspect.
So, things about me:
I'm almost 19
I'm Australian.
I'm studying for a bachelor's in Science.
I like to think I'm fun.

I'm looking for friends to hang out with and do quests with (Not to mooch off of them).

Or for any helpful advice about the game, I want to play a Mage (Haven't decided whether to focus on Con or Tha yet, but leaning towards Con as I prefer playing support roles) in Ul'Dah.
