Last year no All Saint's Wake event.
This year no Hatching-tide event?
And this year's combined Little Lady's with Valentione's was personally imo a bit meh.

Last year, Saint's Wake was cancelled due to the pandemic pushing development time back a couple months. I assume it's the same with the joined Valentione/LLD event.
We still have a couple of days until April. If we get Hatchingtide, I feel it might line up with the 5.5 release on the 13th, if not a day/week after (or week before).
All Saint's Wake was doomed by the pandemic lockdown causing a massive scheduling setback, which is in no way under SE's control.
Tomorrow's Mog Station maintenance will probably be last year's Easter stuff going up for sale. I'd expect this year's event to be announced by the end of the week. At least wait until it's actually April to start doomsaying it.
Pandemic probably forced them to cut corners. I would assume it would improve when things go back to normal in general. The event we had in the summer was good imo, I still use that glam all the time. The rest I will say has been slightly disappointing but taking into account the state of things, I can't really fault them either. At least we got something instead of having everything cancelled.
Seasonal Events are nothing more than staging, asset flips and dialog (and not much of it)
It's not like they are reinventing the gaming wheel every time they have to do one, so I fail to see the reason they are removing certain ones.
If you are so understaffed you can't come up with 20 lines of dialogue, that's a management issue.
Which is why those are the first thing to get cut when there's stuff going on irl. I'll be honest, if cutting a seasonal event or two means they have more time for something else, go right ahead.
For the main topic, I don't think they gave up, just that the situation with Covid had them wanting to work on more important stuff then an event. Personally I was disappointed in no All Saints Wake last October but was alright with the V-Day/Little Ladies Day event this year (especially after the last year's V-Day event was.... Something).
I think that the seasonal events have just become rather inefficient in general.
They're only ever temporary and there for a two week period, generally. Despite that, the dialogue has to be translated into every available language, NPC's need to be animated appropriately and decor is hand placed in each major city/housing zone (as an example, you might see a snowman sitting on a fence one year but the next there will be one standing behind a barrel instead).
The rewards themselves are often a mixed bag, too. Sometimes they're pretty great, other times there's a real sense of '...is that all?' at play.
Oh - and there's also unique seasonal event artwork for each one, per year. That no doubt takes up a lot of resources/time as well.
I've come to dislike them, mostly because the stories they tell are very 'samey'. If there was a bit more variety, I'd lament their potential loss more I guess. It doesn't help that there's a 'Little Ladies Day' but no equivalent for those of us who play male characters.
Personally I wouldnt mind if they dropped a few of these events - for the past couple of years we've been getting more and more of them added and while I felt that they first iteration of any of these events was usually pretty good, I also feel like there has been a decline in overall quality - maybe due to time, maybe due to a lack of motivation or inspiration.
So I wouldnt mind them taking a good, hard look at these events and trim them down a bit, leaving out the ones that have felt rather uninspired these past few years. It sometimes feels like with each new event they added, they took another bite that they couldnt chew in the long run. I'd rather see less events, but with the potential of these being better.
Except for those who feel really passionate about a certain holiday, I dont really get the complaints about them skipping out on those seasonal events either - yes, it technically is less content and its probably content thats easy to notice when its missing, which makes an easy target, but honestly... most of the time its a 30 minutes quest with rewards that range from one piece of situational glamour (...looking at you, New Years Helmets...) to possibly a mount (what I'm meaning to say is: The rewards are a very, very mixed bag - so its not like we're flat out missing out on another awesome mount each time they skip an event).
I wouldnt blame them for being bored with some of these events - personall I certainly am, so I dont mind a declutter.
