5. Repeat 3 for more No.2 Type B Materiel Storage Crate that can not be discarded

I put the item back on my retainer, seeing as I didn't want to keep it in my inventory.

If you move the contents of the box (the 2B outfit pieces) to a different inventory (chocobo saddlebag, retainer, etc.), you should be able to open the boxes in your inventory and discard the contents individually. I believe the items are unique, so you can't have more than one of each in the same inventory.
