It seems very low but I’m okay with low drop rates, it keeps it valuable.
They’re expecting a lot of players to run it 15 times at least, many will do more than that. You just need to wait a bit and it will settle at an affordable price.
I shouldn't have had to buy it after (so far) 56 RUNS! I STILL have not seen the hair, nor the mount, nor the barding drop. A party member in a DR I ran last night was telling me in 127 runs they saw it drop... ONCE! It's ridiculous! It really doesn't feel like they are expecting people to run it 15 times, rather they are expecting people to run it 255 times, and most should get a drop by then.
Honestly, it’s an MMO and it’s a cosmetic item. It’s fine if you personally never ever see it drop as long as someone does and it makes its way to the MB.
There’s such a sense of entitlement in the FF community. Early MMO’s had 0.001 percent drop rates on mounts and things, and getting it was special. 14 players want to run a raid no more than 3 times then make an angry thread if it doesn’t drop.
I've done it so many times, and I've never seen the mount, hair or barding. I got the orchestrion roll 3 times I think. It does seem extremely rare. I don't think the hair looks good or acceptable on males at all, and I'm a hrothgar right now, so I'd sell it... But I still want it. For the profit, you know?
I've been playing for over three years and I have 46 million gil on my main character; maybe 60 million including alts.
The hairstyle costs 12 million gil last time I checked on my server.
So yes, I can afford it, but that's a dauntingly large fraction of my total savings to have to pay for a hairstyle - and if that becomes the norm for price setting, I won't be able to buy much more.
Having chase items is nice, to be honest. Keeps me wanting to run it here and there for the opportunity at something to sell, and the vast majority of MMO games tend to have some chase items in loot tables.
If you can't live without it, just do maps/gather/craft and make the gil. Or run content and dump the prior tomes on some of the hot materials to sell for some more gil. But I feel like having low-chance drop cosmetics in content, that are valuable to sell, is overall a good thing in a MMO. Keeps a reward present within content to make re-running it more exciting.
But if they can't use hairstyles/cosmetics as sought-after or difficult to obtain rewards, idk what they could really. Except for things no one wants.
It is NOT exciting when it doesn't drop in 100 runs, and for that matter, the price is continually dropping. I'm sure it'll settle on something fairly high, but most definitely not worth the average time investment. A person would be better off making their gil elsewhere with these rates. Having sought after rewards is fine, but in regular content they should be a bit more obtainable.
People are running DR regardless of the drop rates, not for the drops, but rather, for their relic weapon. This content will be dead in just a little while, it's not sustainable.
