"Full" servers and character creation for the player return campaign

Hello,

I'm very appreciative about the entire legacy campaign, but had a relatively important question.

At the beginning of the game launch I had about 6-10 of my friends try out FFXIV. They all hated it and quit, and I think that was a perfectly reasonable thing for them to do.

I had promised some of them to tell them when the game gets better, and I've been telling them it is getting better, but I wouldn't recommend it. The Legacy campaign, however, makes a recommendation justifiable [even though I think I would have just waited for 2.0; just make sure you highlight everything about 2.0 to these players].

Here's the problem [restated for clarification]:

People who come back for the campaign are going to want to delete their characters and make a character on a server with their current friends. Several of these servers are currently capped right now. How will Square alleviate this issue that will likely persist into May?

Additionally, if nothing is going to be done to alleviate the issue, what will happen at 2.0 with server transfers?

This actually happened? I remember like 3 topics popping up people claiming they were moved against there will when it was just them not reading the instructions.

TBH considering the situation SE were in with the merge its understandable if non paying members had to be moved to other servers.

You can't not play the game since launch and come back and moan because your character isn't with your friends any more .. I mean seriously.

Yea if your friends never actually did anything their characters are still on your server. Also the reps said in the unlikely chance that they were moved, you can contact a GM in-game and they will be able to help you out now.

Returning players still have characters so as long as they don't want to make a new one they are good to try the game again during the free period.

SE needs to open character creation for the servers that are capped, at least temporarily during the duration of the trial period. I want to tell my friends who didn't get that far at the start of the game to come back, but servers are capped right now and they'd be stuck on a different server because mine is full. I don't expect server transfers for their inactive characters, but several of them would welcome the chance to make a new character if that meant being on my server.

It would be somewhat pointless for me to encourage them to come back and have them just flounder about on a completely different server.

Please open character creation on all servers during the trial period for returning players to join their friends.

I've clarified for whatever confusion I caused you guys. To my knowledge there were very few mistaken transfers; but mainly to focus on players who are going to delete their very low level characters.

The servers would melt and burn if they opened character creation Tibian, they have closed it off for a reason.

We are already suffering server instability.

I don't think now is the time to be doing this tbh, they should have waited for the new server, last thing you want is to invite people back and say you can't make new characters because the servers are capped out or worse still create massive lag and stability issues.

But even if they did open up the servers, what if those people decided to keep playing? it would just make an overpopulated server even more overpopulated. If they switched it back to being locked afterwords, your friends would still be locked out of the server and you would be in the same situation you are in now, or the overpopulation cap would be the issue.

I understand the reasons. But I don't see how they could make it work. Some people might have to jump on a new server to introduce their friends.

Considering theres about 400,000 people who brought the game then quit, if even 10% of those came back in the player return campaign where are 40,000 characters going to go? SE must have thought of something because a huge influx of chars is going to happen.

Right, I'm definitely confused why they started this promotion in the midst of capped servers, server issues, etc. and before 2.0 goes in. It seems like ill-conceived timing, but I obviously want it to go off smoothly since they're trying to do this.
