Can anyone explain why "Duchess" isnt a name that can be used in character creation? it only just occurred to me to ask in a forum, but for the longest time ive used this name for Melee oriented characters in games, and this is the first game i can't use it in.
Is it possible that the name is already taken?
I ran a search on the Lodestone. There is not a single character named or in part named Duchess on any server. Seems to be unavailable to take as suggested.
What did you enter for your last name?
Or did you try and just go "Dutchess?"
Maybe cuz if you take the ss off the end it looks like something else that is also a word for a feminine hygiene product? That kinda stuff happens with other things like say, naming your character Yoshitaka or something cus it has a naughty word in it and the censoring algorithm detects that.
Maybe they should bother to open up the censoring algorithm in that regard then. But it probably is just the 'ess' on the end that's preventing the name from being used. You could try Duchesse, if you really want to try and cheese the algorithm.
Most games do not allow titles as names. Not sure if SE is the same on this or not, but that would be my first guess. Though they don't seem to adhere to this rule as I'm pretty sure I've seen a few titles, celebrities, and hidden profanity, in player names.
It could be that your first and last name combined tripped the game's censor. I ran into that problem when trying to name my character. Though if the name you went for was "Sister Duchess", I can't imagine what combination of letters would have done it.
It's almost certainly because of the Duche part, as this is a viable spelling of Douche.
It seems if something even CONTAINS a potentially off-color word it's blocked.
I wanted to name this character "Janus" originally but could not. It's the name of the Roman god of beginnings and means "gateway" in Latin. But that ending is probably what is blocking it, alas.
