The Striking Tree (Extreme) is flawed

If you're reading this, just a warning that this is a slight rant.

I've logged many hours into this game. I've done every extreme in the game. And I can tell you, sincerely, I enjoy almost all of them. While some extreme trials may be a bit less involved than others, they all give bring me at least a bit of joy, and I have fun with them in the end, even if I would, say, join one in a mentor roulette and be greeted with only defeat for 60 minutes. At the end of the day, the fights are great and the new players are at least learning. I cannot say the same for Ramuh.

This fight is the one extreme I dread, the one extreme I actually cannot stand, due to the design of the fight.

While I won't go into detail on the mechanics here, I hope I am not alone when I say that the fight has way too much RNG parts to it. Combining all the issues together and I cannot handle it at times.

For one example, you can have the trance status effect (or whatever it is actually called I always forget) affect two players, and then before the lightning aoes can appear to save the players, a new phase can begin - thereby stopping the aoes appearing and causing the players to begin to approach Ramuh. This could, if enough time is given, be fixed by the next lightning aoes appearing, but even then players may not expect it, especially when new players may be doing the tactic of "go to the waymarker" to save tranced players.

There are other examples of course, which add to the issues I have, but in general I hope it's clear I don't find this fight fun. If you guys think it's also flawed, or perhaps disagree and have reasons for me to think otherwise, please let me know.

This is one of the reason they change from HP percentage base phase to time scripted phase in later content.

Ramuh is one of the most chaotic fight indeed.

Sounds to me like someone had a bad day on Mentor Roulette here.

This Game is already easy enough as it is, at least keep the few trials, which actually involve putting some effort, the way they are.

Other's have beaten this synched countless times way before our time on the game, so please spare us with those silly "i can't beat it so it must be flawed" mindset.

I assure you, I've done Ramuh extreme a lot of times. Twice completed, about 4 times failed. Of course, I'm going to feel very ecstatic clearing Ramuh due to how much trouble with it we always seem to have, but even in those circumstances I can look back and think about how horrible it is at times.

Seriously nothing comes close to it, I genuinely enjoy every other extreme, even Thornmarch Extreme which is pretty chaotic (it may be tough to get through, but at least the mechanics are understandable more and rely on the party's smarts with dealing with adds).

That's in Mentor Roulette I should have noted - for some reason people really like to play that fight lol

Tried this in the last two day 4 times all failed. I find people aren't willing to wipe and learn.

On the last one we had 4 attempts we were getting better at it but we wiped 4 times, I reckon if people had stuck around for 2 more attempts we would have done it.

There was no negativity in the chat either anyone who spoke was positive.

There isn't that much RNG to it. One of the people targeted for Chaotic Strike is always the person farthest away from center, and it can be baited by a ranged DD so that you never lose both healers.

I'm confused as to why this is an issue. If two people were hit by Chaotic Strike before the phase change, why aren't people already prepared to break them out at the next opportunity? Was the party not already preparing for a break out before the phase changed?

I don't entirely disagree generally with this point per se. But to be more precise, I think (1) the fight is fine when running with a prepared and coordinated group but (2) the only times I ever get into this fight are in DR:Mentor and the best mentor tip for the situation is invariably, "You should use /partyfinder for EX primals even if you want to do them syncked. Extreme trials expect a certain amount of preparedness and coordination, and this fight in particular requires far more coordination than any other ARR primal except maybe GKMMXII EX," because a few unprepared people queued for an extreme primal without knowing what they were signing up for.

It's not "a bad fight full stop". It's a bad fight for people who don't understand what extreme trials are who think that they can DF them because they're seven year old content. That kind of thinking works for Garuda and Shiva, but that's more because they're spoiled by how easy Garuda and Shiva are due to gear scaling, not punished by how difficult Ramuh is.
