item search question

Just wanted to know how to list items in the item search.

I am assuming you are referring to the markets?

If so you will need a retainer or 2 to achieve this.
You can get a retainer from the Adventurers Guild by talking to an NPC at a kiosk.
There is a Guild in each of the 3 cities, cant recall the names of the NPCs but just talk to the NPCs in the kiosks, theres only a few, you will find the right one eventually.

Once u have a retainer, u can fill it with junk and saleables. Enter a market area of choice and call your retainer to position it. Once positioned, you can choose to sell items via your retainer.
After a short time, that item or items will show up in the item search.

Yep. Note that you have to add items to your retainer's Bazaar to sell them, which is one of the options available when interacting with them. You can move items between yourself and your retainer with one selection. With another you can manage which items they have for sale and at what prices (up to 10).

Hm...I actually can't find a Lodestone guide on this. Can anyone else?

Dang, after all my hooplah about the guides this seems to be the only thing they don't cover =P

There is, however, an old Beginner's Guide to Eorzea that covers retainers. I skimmed it and it seems like it's still relevant. The only info I found so far that is outdated is that you can now summon retainers if they are already set up selling items in a ward. They don't go back after you summon them so be careful if you do this.

Remember you can currently hire up to 2 retainers, and it doesn't cost anything in-game or IRL.

Oh ok I think I did that but will you be able to see your own items in item search when you list it?

Yes. That's how I knew I was selling Firepots after I set up my retainer in a stall in the market wards.
