Gear Set Glamours

So, I was super excited when I was first playing, about the Glamour Plates.

See, I thought it would act like a layered system. Where I could set it up and easily switch. I didn't realize that all the plates do is glam the items (permanently), can only be done in the Hubs, and are somewhat underwhelming.

So I thought about a new system. Where the glams wouldn't be saved to your individual items, but to the gear set itself.

Right now we only get 15 glam plates. If we have multiple jobs that use shared gear, we have to set up one plate for each job that wants a unique glam look.

A good example is Paladin, Dark Knight, and Gunbreaker. Each of the three should have a unique look. You wouldn't expect a holy white knight look for the Paladin to show up on the Dark Knight, which should be somewhat more fierce by nature.

Hence the idea, to save a Glamour to the Gear Set itself. It could be done through the Glamour Dresser. However, one important feature is that the glam is on the SET, not the pieces.

So if I'm a level 50 Paladin, and I save a glam to my Paladin Gear Set, I can freely change pieces as I level and acquire them. And the entire time, that Gear Set Glam is still in effect. Meaning I would no longer have to run back to the Glam Dresser each time I equip new and stronger pieces. My look remains the same automatically.

I do realize that once you get to 80, you aren't likely to change armor for a particular job. Once you hit BiS, that's the set you would use. So the Gear Set Glamour becomes less useful.

But I believe it still becomes useful when you have shared gear among jobs. So when you have that 80 Paladin, 80 Dark Knight, and 80 Gunbreaker, you have three different glams, saved to three different gear sets.

Glamour Prisms could still be used to insert stuff into the dresser. And the 15 Glamour Plates could be retained for a "quick swap" feature. Instead of the plate applying glamours to the individual pieces, it would copy the plate glam onto the gear set glam.

If you right click on a gearset you can link a glamour plate to it. This way, any time you equip that gearset (in a place that allows you to cast glamours) it automatically casts the glamour on the set.
Be a DRK in a bathing suit and by swapping to PLD it auto glamours to the chocobo suit you've linked to your Paladin gearset.

Yeah, I knew that. But it only works in the HUB areas. There is also the /gs change # # macro, where the first is your gear set number and the second is the glamour plate number. And it still will only permanently glamour the items, unless you use another glamour over top of it, or a dispel prism.

My idea is that you save the glamour info to the gear set itself. Not the gear pieces.

So if I have the L60 Shire gear for a tank. That is shared between all tanks.

With the current system, I'm required to be in a HUB when I change. I'm required to have one Glamour Plate set up for each of my Tank jobs.
If I'm out in the wilderness, nothing happens when I change.

With the idea that I'm proposing, you wouldn't have to be in the HUB when you change. The glamour is saved to the Gear Set. So as soon as I swap between PLD, DRK, or GNB, the glamour attached to the gear set goes into effect.

I can't remember why the glamour plate doesn't work in the wilderness. I know there was some reason for it. And I just can't help but wonder, why bother putting glam on gear in the first place?

Look at how Monster Hunter World does it. Why can't XIV have a similar system? I would think it'd be a much easier method.

Offhand, the way the system works, I believe, is something like this. Each time you go through a load screen, when your character is to be rendered on the other side, it has to pull texture and model data for each of your gear slots. Glam simply overrides the base piece's texture/model data. So instead of one piece, it shows another.

With it on a gear set, the exact same thing could be done. When you save the Gear Set Glam at your dresser, the texture/model data is saved to the SLOT on your character window. And that is what is called up when your character is rendered. It ignores the equipment in your slots, in favor of the glam.

Also an option to turn it off for when you want SMN and BLM (for example) to share a glamour.

Ah no, you still misunderstand.

They wouldn't really need more Glamour Plates. Remember, each Job is going to already have it's own Gear Set.

So jobs within a group will still get separate glamours. Since the glamour is saved alongside the Gear Set, not the Job or Gear.

So let's say you just hit 60. You're using the Shire gear for Casters. This means that Summoner, Black Mage, Blue Mage, and Red Mage are all sharing one set of gear.

With the changes I'm proposing, the glamour is saved to the gear set, rather than the gear itself.

So when you switch to your Summoner, whatever glamour you saved to the Summoner gear set is what you'll see.
Switch to Black Mage, it's either the base Shire gear, or a glamour saved to the Black Mage set.
And the same for Blue Mage and Red Mage.

More importantly, remember we have around 40 possibly gear set slots. I don't know the upper limit offhand. But I've got at least 38 now with all jobs unlocked, except Marauder/Warrior and Pugilist/Monk, which would add four more.

Because of this, you can have multiple sets per job. The same gear, but a different glam on the set itself.

Set #1 could be Paladin, with a glamour that is all white/gold and holy in theme.
Set #2 could also be Paladin, this time with a glamour that is more like silver in theme.

The existing 15 plates can be used as a sort of extra glam storage. You've got your Gear Set glam saved. You make Plate 1 look like something else.

It just comes to me now that the Glam Plate Apply button could be changed to temporarily change your gear set glam, but NOT save it.

Like when you have a Gear Set, and you equip a temporary piece of gear. Perfect example? The Ehcatl gloves you are required to use for crafting missions for the beast tribe quests. You just temporarily equip the gloves. The next time you apply your DoH gear set, the gloves you had previously saved are equipped, not the Ehcatl ones.

In this way, you could set up some temporary "social" glams in the Plates. That could still function with the macros.

So you've got your nice Gear Set Glam setup for while you're out in the dungeon or raid, but you want a different look when you're in Limsa near the Aetheryte. You've got the macro that's already in game, so you can do /gs change # # to reapply your current set, but using one of your social glams for being in the hub. Let's say a bikini and halter, ribbon in your hair, etc.

Since it's a temporary through the plates, when you go back out, you can just do /gs change # like normal, and your Gear Set Glam takes over once more.

Edit: If I didn't explain well enough, I was trying to say that from the Glamour dresser, you'd basically update your Gear Set to include glamour information.

And sounds like it would allow for much more flexible glamming so I'm def on board.

Yep. It would be an insane QoL revamp for the glamour system. Much more flexible and useful than the current one.

It'd be great if they could implement this for us.
