I don't see why retainers can't adopt the DOH class.

I have been wondering since our retainers can be combat and gatherers why not crafters also and why not allow them exclusive access to providing to the market board buy orders after all retainers can hold gil so why not put that function to more use then just holding it.

Buy order would go as simple you put a deposit of gil for the product you wish to have the retainer buy and also you can order the retainer to craft items similar to how gatherers and hunters gather items obviously you must have the item ticked.

The benefit to this i could see is fixing the market problem and also giving players more control over selling stuff to players by choosing to sell to a buy order for a quick gil rather then leaving it on the market board in hopes it sells or be under cut and have to reduce the price.

It would also fix the over saturation of the market with items selling for silly low prices that naturally would sell for more if people just sold them to a NPC.

As for the companion ap it would give the ability to place buy orders so you can do it wile your not on your computer thus making the market more real time then ever.

What sort of venture would you give a DoH retainer that's comparable to the hunting/mining/botany/fishing ventures? Would you have them make crafted items, dependent on having the required materials placed in the retainers inventory? Wouldn't that just add to more market saturation of goods?

Would buy orders share listing with sell orders or would their limits be separate?

I do like buy orders as an option for players but I really don't think it's going to fix any problems with the current market. The saturation and low prices comes from supply compared to demand. To fix saturation, SE would need to put limits on supply or add new uses that create more demand.

Why would anyone sell that belt they got from a quick venture to a NPC for 24 gil when they can sell it to another player for 500 gil? It might seem like a silly low price but it's still more than they'll get from the vendor. SE is highly unlikely to increase the sell to vendor prices to make them a more attractive option because that would feed the RMT farming bots more gil for the items they obtain while leveling.

I don't use the Companion app so I can't add much comment on that but I fail to see how it makes anything more real time than it already is by simply logging into the game. You should have to log into the game to play the game, not do it remotely.

Why not just have them run errands to get a crafting mat like the DoL ones do?

We already have DoL (and DoW/DoM) retainers for that, so what would the point be of adding DoH retainers who do the same thing?

Could be ItMe is thinking of the intermediate materials like ingots and bolts that are crafted, not gathered. Players who are currently going to vendors or MB to buy them might switch to using a DoH retainer.

Buy orders would certainly be great. But I don't see why that would require DoH retainers. And given that quick synthesis is plenty fast already, having retainers craft things would be of dubious value too. Maybe it could be useful for FC projects where you need hundreds, even thousands of crafted components?

(Though iirc with quick exploration can DoL retainers already bring back leather and ingots and such)

I was also thinking that theres no way the retainers can bring back the full breath of mats this game has.
And if they wanted to add DoH retainers, moving forward they could just have DoL retainers bring back items from a more moderate pool so there's room for DoH too.
Especially if there IS a big level squish coming that could do a lot to dial back the incredible number of items they have access to.

(Not that I believe limiting our access to mats is necessarily good or fun, but I could understand that argument considering the state of the marketboard)

I can see these retainers as a good option to utilize our outdated crafting tools and gear... :P
