Bozjan Southern Front Essence of the Irregular: Bugged or Intentional?

I'm unsure if this is the correct place or if there is any kind of suggestions section I'm missing but the functionality of this particular potion in Bozjan Southern Front is either bugged or overtuned to a very harsh degree. I expected it to work so that it would turn a tank job into a kind of faux "DPS" job but what actually happens is that when the boss uses an unavoidable AoE ability you just die from full health. We're talking over 90k damage to unavoidable AoE and with the potion running on a Tank job your HP decreases to 78k.

It makes it completely unusable on Critical Engagements and unless you have a tank friend taking all the aggro you explode even from any trash mobs in the regular fates hitting you with auto attacks. The only way you can survive the AoE is to use your defensive cooldowns, in my case Reprisal and Rampart together for 30% decrease, but the damage is massive and drags you from full down to the 5-15% range which is significantly more damage than any of the regular DPS jobs take. I regularly play SAM in Bozjan, including in Castrum, so I can speak from experience that I take far less damage as a DPS job than a tank running Irregular. I've taken a significant mettle hit testing Irregular at this point and I simply refuse to believe that it was designed explicitly to function this way to the point of near complete uselessness. If it has some kind of auxiliary use I'm missing I can't find it.

I'd like to hear thoughts from other people who've tried it. Or even suggestions on where I could toss this post if this is the wrong forum section. Any suggestions at all really. I just want to use it when we have too many tanks / healers and not enough DPS in Castrum or even outside it for fun goof times.

Sounds way overtuned. Damage taken by 200% is absolutely massive and tanks natural high defense stats + 20% damage reduction is never going to compensate for something like that.

You can see it's meant to be a high risk for high damage sort of deal, but it simply turns you into a liability and you'd be better off going Platebearer dps or Martialist.

Irregular is great for farming sprites though :3

To elaborate on this: Irregular's 200% increase to damage taken applies to all incoming damage, even if you don't actually take any of it, meaning you can use Lost Reflect to bounce back spells at three times their potency towards the caster. Sprites only attack will spells—all of which you'll be reflecting back at them—making it trivially easy to deal with large groups of them at a time. This is especially true of Rank V Sprites, which will quickly kill themselves with their spells. Just make sure you apply Reflect at least once before getting in range, since Lost Reflect takes about a full second before applying the Reflect buff and also counts as a spell, meaning it draws aggro from Sprites.

Normal DPS stance for tanks is martialist. Irregular essence is there for players that know what they are doing, I already saw a pro player clearing Castrum with Irregular, this player needed to use tank invu for stuff like double holy and very tight use of all others CDs. Deep essence of the Irregular increase damage for a little bit more of 100%, that with a DPS banner and slash is a lot of damage. Pretty much the idea is to turn tanks into glass cannon DPS.

Another option is not picking slash and use reflect, works on most wide AoE since they are magical. It's needed for Red choco for example.

I like Irregular since its a difference way to play tank
you do so much more damage but have to mitigate raid wide and such

What I mean is that Profane turns healers (well...WHM at least) into DPS jobs with a 70% potency reduction on healing to offset the power so they can no longer heal. There's also a myriad of goofy options to turn DPS into healers or tanks as well but it's not like I can test them all to see how well they work. I do know that PLD with Savior and healing actions is some next level mitigation and healing power though. The main problem is that Profane is working as intended so that healers can drop healing entirely and focus on being a faux DPS while Irregular is overtuned in damage received to become a faux DPS job. If it were 170% damage received Irregular "tanks" wouldn't get 1 shot from full but would take additional damage moreso than regular DPS jobs would instead, so when AoE is going out a good DPS "tank" would pop 1-2 defensives to take the same damage a regular DPS job would normally take. This would make it more in line with profane turning healers into regular DPS jobs so that tanks can become regular DPS jobs as well.

I still firmly believe that a DPS with Skirmishers would defeat a profane WHM in DPS or a Irregular Tank in DPS, the issue is that Irregular tank takes significantly more damage in the process to compete with profaned healers. I'm not talking about removing the extra skill ceiling for Irregular DPS, a bad Irregular DPS would still be taking significantly more damage than a good one but they simply wouldn't be getting 1 shot from full on bog standard unavoidable AoEs. A Bad irregular would still be the bane of healers everywhere if it were 170% instead of 200%. Martialist simply doesn't add enough oomph for Tanks to become true faux DPS like profane does for WHM hence why I believe Irregular exists to boost them up to actual faux DPS status.

If you want to think of it another way, think of the old goofy "40 Priest Onyxia" style way. If we brought 48 Healers using the variety pack of dmg mitigation potions, enmity actions, profanes ect I believe they'd clear Castrum with relative ease and at a decent pace. Yet if we did the same for 48 Tanks I feel like they'd struggle significantly more since all of their irregulars would be dying consistently more often than the healer DPS groups using Profane. The endgame goal of all this is to make the 48 healer and 48 tank raids more in line with one another and 170% damage instead of 200% would be that break point without removing the additional necessary skill tied to playing Irregular tank as DPS. The true true end game goal has, and always will be, to make the dream 48 heal and 48 tank teams a reality. We're on a mission from god to make these meme dreams raids come true.

If they change essence of the irregular I'm unsubscribing, use your essence of the basic bloodsucker and leave the weirdos like me in peace

If you do decide to give it another shot, remember, you still have mitigation skills. Raid-wide incoming? Guess it's time to mitigate. And then, you know, hope you get a heal before the next one.
