Rest in Peace
Today, I learned that two long-time friends, one of which was the reason I ever picked up Final Fantasy XIV in the first place, are dead. Thankfully, one of our group had been texting one of their phones through a long, harrowing silence (they were a couple) and finally our FC founder's mother responded and called the person who'd been texting. We found out today--tonight, actually, they've both been gone since the 5th of September.
Needless to say this was a huge blow.
These friends, who I actually met online outside the game, are the reason why I am part of this community today. Through them, I've met so many other players who've become friends; that have enriched my life. And while they had been on a bit of hiatus towards the end, their legacy lives on in the connections they helped forge, spanning at least two Datacenters and across many servers--some, I'm sure we'll never know.
I know no one wants depressing reality (especially now, during these times) but I have to leave this here for them. My heart is heavy, and my soul aches. Farewell, loves. May we meet again on the next grand adventure.

I am so very sorry for your loss.

I have no words that caan fully express what I feel about this. So I will go with the traditional Sorry for your loss, and send my love as a prayer.

I had this happen with a friend in another game, and while I knew they had health problems and it was a possibility it might happen, it still hit me hard when it did. I'm sorry for your loss.
(I deleted my previous reply because I got your two threads about this confused and I accidentally posted the reply to the other one here by mistake which in the sole context of this thread would have come across as insensitive. Apologies if anyone saw it before I moved it to the other thread where it fits in better.)

Hold on. The loss of friends is irreparable, I know, no words will help here. But my heart aches for you.

Thank you everyone. This is...she was our FC founder (and considering nearly all the friends I have were connected through her somehow it feels like she founded an Empire) and both she and her long-time love and companion's loss is. Well. We're still processing that we've been carrying on as usual while they've been gone because we didn't know.
And no worries Mhaeric. Thank you for your other response too. I feel like especially now, during this pandemic, there should be at least a tiny bit of infrastructure in place for preserving the accounts of deceased players. Obviously I can see the room for abuse but what would SE care as long as the account continued to generate even the most basic revenue of being subbed?
We'll at least have their lodestones. I'll take what I can get.

I'm terribly sorry for your loss, I wish there was more than consoling words could be done for you. :(
I know it's not much and they're just words on a screen, but... *hugs*.

Very sorry to hear that! Anything we can do please don't hesitate to ask. Even though were just an internet forum I'd like to think we're a bit of a family.
Much love!
