Another N00b question

I'm trying to work out the right rotation for a lvl 50 BLM, and I'm encountering a small problem I don't understand. When I try to add thunder I to my hotbar, the game automatically converts it to thunder III. Am I not supposed to be using TI at this point? I thought it was still a useful filler at times.

I'm not level shifted down or up, just at level 50 in Ul'Dah. I tried to look this up, but apparently my misunderstanding is so basic, I'm the only one who doesn't get it...

Your T1 becomes T3 at one point.
It is basically the same spell.

Some skills get automatically replaced with their higher level versions in the hotbar - they will be replaced with the lower level versions when you sync down so dont worry nothing is wrong.

Most spells automatically upgrade to stronger versions when you reach a certain level.
Example: White Mage’s "Stone" upgrades to "Stone II", replacing the original version of Stone on the hotbar.

Simply put: Thunder 1 no longer exists and was replaced by Thunder III.

Thanks for the patient replies. Just figured out my own question. Thunder mastery, under traits, replaces thunder I. Gawd. I expected a big complicated game, and that's ok. But I feel like I'm studying for an exam or something...

Thunder III is an automatic upgrade from Thunder I and simply replaces it. When you get synced down to below the level you are able to use Thunder III then it will automatically become Thunder I again. This will be the same for Thunder II and Thunder IV when you get them as a heads up.

Several other jobs have a few abilities like this as well. E.g. Whm Stone I, II, III, IV and Glare are all automatic upgrades of the same spell, Summoner has Ruin III and Ruin I paired as an automatic upgrade as well as Ruin IV and Ruin II paired, etc.
