Please Remove Role Skills and Give Them Back as Class/Job Abilities

The treatment MCH, BRD, and DNC got for Troubadour, Tactician and Shield Samba was a move in the right direction for job identity. All three skills do the exact same thing and would qualify as Role Skill material but having them visually distinct adds to the overall feel/class fantasy.

I understand it would be an undertaking to create new animations for each skill but it would add much needed flavor to each job. Several could simply be reverted to previous skills/animations - such as Leeches/Esuna/Exalted Detriment.

Another example: Reprisal could stay as is for DRK while bringing Flash back for PLD (minus the blind but instead apply Reprisal's debuff). Flash is still in the Lorebook as a core PLD skill but has been removed entirely from the game - this could help to rectify that. WAR/GNB would gain visually appropriate versions as well.

As much as I miss Shadowskins animation, it has always been referred to as DRK's rampart since HW launch. Honestly, copy cat abilities should probably just be the same ability if they don't offer anything new to be fair. IDK I still believe tanks should get bloodbath back, but what do I know? Somehow that one skill must have thrown the balance off kilter so bad for tanks they had to get rid of it. Thought Ulitimatum was a neat idea too, but to be fair, im sure everyone else also used it as a second charge of provoke like i did, in very niche and extreme unlikely situations that sometimes happens which is probably why it got nuxxed from role skills to begin with. Actually let me rephrase this whole thing OP, what exactly are you asking for again? I lost track

The OP seems to want role skills removed, and visually appropriate skills added to their respective jobs. An example I’d give is removing esuna from the role skills and bringing back whm esuna, sch leeches, and ast exalted detriment which I am in favor of from a class flavor standpoint.

I'm not asking for any kits to be changed or added to from what each job currently has available. Every tank would still have a Rampart skill but for DRK it would be Shadowskin in name and animation, PLD would get back Rampart in name and animation, WAR could have an animation where they encase themselves in stone, GNB could have an animation utilizing their bullets.

Basically when every job in a role has the same exact abilities visually, it adds to watering them down. Balance-wise all of the role skills would stay available to their respective jobs - but they would do so under new names and animations that were appropriate for each job's flavor/lore/identity.

I guess I generally got no issue with this, though I wouldn't want provoke and shirk to have 4 different names. Sometimes uniformity is a good thing to have in terms of certain utility abilities.

I see where you're coming from but Provoke has been known by many different names in the FF series: Provoke, Lure, Decoy, Taunt, Challenge, and Draw Attacks. All of the names let you know what they do and at the same time they have subtle differences that could be made meaningful for job flavor.

PLD could Challenge with its roots as a GLA in the Colosseum. WAR could Provoke for series continuity and a nod to the characters in the job story. DRK could Lure as it does with criminals in its story. GNB could Taunt as a nod to the Squall/Seifer relationship.

It's like how the healers have the identical-in-function-but-different-in-animation: Raise, Resurrect and Ascend. They all are simply referred to as "Rez/Res" and it's understood what is being requested (nobody asks an AST for an Ascend). Same deal would happen for "voke".

I would love for more skill variety, however Role skills do have one functional perk, they're immune to level sync.
You learn Reprisal at level 22 but then it's available back in Sastasha at level 18, etc.
Whether or not this is a big deal I don't know, but its nice to have some kind of progress that isn't nullified by level sync.

But while, we're at it, do these facsimile skills have to function identically?

Take Esuna for example, what if...

Esuna:
Removes one negative status effect.
Additional effect: has a 50% chance of removing two negative status effects where applicable.

Leeches:
Removes one negative status effect.
Additional effect: When successfully removing a status effect, generates one stack of Aetherflow.

Exalted Detriment:
Removes one negative status effect.
Additional effect: Prevents the infliction of the next negative status effect, duration 10s.

Well the bright side is they're all unlocked before level 50 so the majority of the time they'd be available. If you get a dungeon that is low level, you cleared it once without the skill already so it would be only a mild inconvenience. Most role skills aren't used too much before they're learned as it is.

As far as making them different, I think they were made the same for a reason (balance). Using your example: if two SCHs (or any SCH combo) are in the party and both use Leeches on a target, one SCH will be at a greater disadvantage for that GCD cast. It can be quite difficult to balance role skills like this which is why they all have the same function.
