During the Rising Event... [Small Spoilers]

Idk if it's been mentioned but during the final quest of the rising event

YoshiP remarks that seven years have passed since the calamity . Is this referencing in-game time? Or our years? If it is in game time, does that mean atleast 2 years have passed since ARR? Seeing as most characters reference 5 years since the fall of dalamaud.

Perhaps he was talking about the actual Rising event itself. I read what you wrote, and can only assume it might be a translation problem.

That CS is Yoshi talking to the players, not an in game reference. Its literally Yoshi thanking the players for supporting the game since the mis-steps of 1.0 and its rebirth as ARR. The calamity was the name for the in game end of 1.0 but also serves as a reference to the real world event of shutting off the 1.0 servers and the rebuild that happened.

ARR was released on August 24th in 2013... 7 years ago

The rising events are essentially out of character events presented with a thin veneer of in character lore on top of them so they aren't so jarring. For example, they've included such things as collecting messages in a bottle on the beach that floated in from some far off land and the messages were literal messages written by the developers.

That scene was breaking the Fourth Wall and Yoshi himself talking directly to you the player instead of the Wandering Minstrel talking to your character, and thanking you for supporting and playing a video game that was released 7 years ago. The Rising events are always very meta and Fourth-Wall breaking, so players who have been playing since the beginning knew what to expect with this, thus it can be quite a shock to new players experincing this event for the first time (the best was, and still is, the 2015 Rising with the 'Eighteenth Floor' aka, the FFXIV Development Team offices at Square Enix HQ!).

So yeah, it's referring literally to FFXIV ARR being 7 years since it's launch and replacement of the old 1.0 version (which, incidentally, will be 10 years old in early October, but something tells me SE are not going to bother referencing the anniversary of that game's launch ;)).

I still can't believe I've been playing this game for 10 years. It doesn't feel like that long.

Technically, 1.0 was shut down in November of 2012, so it's been closer to 8 years than 7 since the Calamity in real life.

I just really want to believe that we've escaped from the time bubble.

The real shame of this year's Rising is that Yoshi-P was cut off before he could give us any clues about the future.

I guess we could read into it and say that the fireworks going boom means everything is about to explode, but probably just a fancy way to tease us and give us nothing.
