Glamour System Ideas

Hi team.

I'm here to suggest some new ideas for the glamour system. I will try to keep things simple and concise so that the post is easily translated.

Glamour overhaul
Here are some ideas for completely overhauling the glamour system.

Step 1. Collections (replaces glamour dresser and armoire)
Once a piece of gear is obtained, it is logged in a "collections menu." It ceases to be a physical item at this point and is merely a record of the item's collection.

Step 2. Outfit designer (replaces glamour plates)
Instead of glamour plates, off the Character menu, you would have an outfit designer tab. This tab would let you design the outfits using items unlocked in the new Collections menu. From here, you could assign outfits to gearsets (similar to assigning glamour plates to gearsets).

There should be a minimum of 30 Outfit Designer slots (one for each job, plus one for generic use).

Step 3. How does this affect crafters?
Glamour prisms would be the currency for Outfit designer changes. They can be uniform or broken up by slot if you want to add variety to the crafting side of things (yes, this can look closer to the old "material" glamour prism system).

This would not affect rushes on new "Flavor of the Patch" glamour items, as most people (as data will show) usually only buy one until the price comes way down anyway; crafters would be largely unaffected in that respect.

Step 4. How does this affect dyes?
In this system, dyes would become more valuable. You cannot dye items IN the Collections menu itself, but you can dye items in the Outfit Designer slots (this is similar to the difference between dying an item in the dresser, and dying an item on a plate, with the new system being closer to the latter). This means if you use that expensive Gunmetal Black dye on a chestpiece, then want to replace the chestpiece in that Outfit Designer slot, you will have to apply a new dye to the new chestpiece, and if you change your mind and want to switch back to the old chestpiece, you will have to spend another dye pot to get that original color back.

This is to purposefully counteract the potential negative impact to crafters by opening this collections system, by making dye more valuable.

Step 5. Overhauling the "try on" and "examine" systems
With this new system in place, the way you preview items would change. You can preview items through one of a few ways:

1. Previewing from the item - This largely remains unchanged, but previewing an item can show you if the item is unlocked in your Collections through the UI.
2. Previewing from another character (aka "Examine") - Along with previewing what a character is wearing, the new character preview window will allow you to preview their outfits in the Outfit Designer, as well as right-click-try-on any item found within.
3. Previewing from Collections - The Collections menu will have the character preview window docked to it, and clicking an item in Collections will automatically preview it on your character model. Additionally, right-clicking the item in collections will allow you to preview the item on a the default model from every race/gender. You can see how the top you are wearing as a Viera, would look on a male Roe, or a female Au'ra.

Step 6. Tweaks to the dye system
The dye system can benefit from some modernization too. Instead of dyes taking up inventory slots, they would function similar to currency (think how Beast Tribe currency used to take up inventory slots).

To minimize development costs on this change, you would still buy the dye "item," but then you would right-click it and choose "add to dye palette," which would then convert the item into the dye "currency." This would mean the system does not affect crafting/sales/etc. of the dyes themselves. If you want to resell the dye you bought, you simply do not add it to the dye palette. Once it is added to the palette, it cannot be extracted (this is open to debate).

This also prevents you from having to have the dyes in your active inventory in order to dye a piece of gear on your Outfit Designer slot.

Step 7. ... Profit? Will this make SQEX money?
Honestly? Probably.

This makes selling glamour items in the Mogstation way easier and more appealing, even from a systems perspective. Instead of "mailing you items," the system just unlocks said items in your collections for immediate use. This makes gender-swapping items easier too, as instead of having to do it through a vendor, the collections can simply show the version of the current gender of your character.

Additionally, as stated above, this makes dye way more valuable, and that includes dyes purchased from the Mogstation.

This also promotes Fantasia use as you can now preview your outfits and items on any gender and race. Want to see how adorable that outfit you put together would work on a Lala? Now you can.

To add to this, I'm okay if logging items to the collection requires a glamour prism. Having a glamour collection being completely divorced from any sort of inventory limit is the important part of this.

That said, don't get rid of the armoire enitrely. It serves a separate purpose from glamour as item storage. It only needs the link to the glamour system removed since that part would be redundant with an unlimited glamour collection.

P.S. to the OP, you can edit your post to bypass the character limit instead of needing multiple posts.
