First you do the big materia. Then you do the small materia.
I'm not looking to be a master crafter but I would like to try my hand at crafting i480 HQ gear for battle classes and if it's in the Goldsmith recipe maybe craft some of the HQ 490 gathering sets.
I'm new to crafting, still learning it.
Goldsmith crafts the ilvl 490 accesories for crafters. Carpenter is the one who crafts the ilvl 490 accesories for gatherers. About the ilvl 480 gear for combat classes, if i remember correctly, goldsmith is the one that crafts most, if not all, the accesories as well.
About materia melding; Materia VIII is the one you can place in the available slots AND the as the first over-meld (17% chance of success). After that, you'll need to use Materia VII or lower in all other over-meld (chance of success decreases with every successful over-meld). What put first... Well, Craftsmanship > Control > CP is not a bad idea

This is what I've melded on mine. Keep in mind this is going to be incredibly expensive unless you have been saving materia.
EDIT: Craftsmanship is 2735 & Control is 2851 before food and syrup in case anyone was wondering.
Max CP -> Control -> Craftmanship is a fairly safe meld priority. The pieces that can only fit 1 cp you can meld craftmanship instead if you prefer.
Ty 4 the tips everyone, I'll use em next time I log in.
