Hey guys, my nephew just picked up the game a couple days ago, but hes having issues logging into the game. Just as the game hits full screen from the log in screen, it will crash back to the desktop saying it "Cannot detect DirectX". We have already tried updating Direct X on the computer and nothing happend. Anyone have any other suggestions?
Try updating your graphics card driver to the newest one.
This game just doesn't play well with some setups, in fact I have 2 version of windows running on the same PC, it will run on Windows 7 but not XP , I've given up trying to find out why.
Turn off Full Screen will be the easiest solution.
If you want it full screen, you need to figure out what is pulling it back, it can be a number of things: UAC turned on? Anything else popping up? Trying to Alt-Tab? Clicking mouse while its opening? Multiple Monitors? Wrong Resolution Set on config?
Like most games you can run full screen and tab in and out freely and the game will not crash, XIV will crash if you load fullscreen and anything tabs out of it.
Thanks ill try making it windowed to see if that fixes it. We did update the video drivers and it still crashed saying the same thing tho. The weird thing was that he played it before at launch and it ran just fine, when all of a sudden he downloaded it again and thats when the issues occured.
get him to download and run the Direct-X web installer here
this will check his system for packages that he might not have, but needs to run the game.
As was stated, that error is usually when you play in full screen and something takes focus away from the game via UAC/popups. Could try checking for spyware too.
Try running under admin?
