1.5 day old newbie

Hi guys,

I'm new to the game and have been doing nothing in-game except for quests. Is there nothing else to do in-game other than quests? It got boring to the extent where I'll just skip every cut scenes and chats.

I was wishing that it'll something similar to Forsaken World (I'm not going back though) where there's daily quests, instances/dungeons of different varieties, auto-attacking and most importantly, jumping without lag.

I'm not sure if it's my issue but every single time I pressed jump, there'll be like 1 second of lag before actually executing the action.

I'm really hoping that I can stay in the game for long so please tell me, what am I actually missing??

There is definetely a lot more to do than just questing - the way the game is designed though is it specifically meant to unlock new content and gameplay gradually as you go along in the main storyline. This includes dungeons - the first instanced dungeon is unlocked during the level 15 main story quest so you will get there soon enough.

Other content you can do right from the start at your point in the game is FATEs, these are basically open battles or scenarios out in the field that have a basic objective to complete before time runs out, this can be as simple as "kill this big monster" or "pick up items off the ground and give them to the NPC". FATEs reward EXP, gil and, once you join one, Grand Company seals. You can freely join and leave FATEs as much as you like, so if you lose interest there is no penalty. FATEs are identified by distinctive pink and blue icons on the map.

Really though, you are very early in the game so you have barely dipped your feet in the pool that is this game yet. There is a lot to do, but the game does a good job at not overloading the player with it all at once, as it's a journey you proceed on. Have patience, and you'll soon find new opportunities unlock you weren't expecting. :)

I found, early game, I had ample opportunity to try out a little bit of everything everywhere. Do some gathering, do some crafting. Eventually, beast tribes, raids, relic weapons. As I got deeper in the game, there gets to be so much available to do that it kinda gets hard to actually keep up with all the things, so you start paring down again. Or, maybe that's just because I have less time/motivation to play...

Anyway, point is, it's a bit of a slow buildup of things to do as story progresses. Story gates everything.

To add on to what Enkidoh said, the main storyline is very important in this game. Youll find some optional content that unlocks independently based on your level, but most of the content in the game is unlocked through the MSQ. Either directly(MSQ sends you to clear out a pirate den therefore the pirate den dungeon is now available) or indirectly(after you clear out a certain threat new optional areas become available) the MSQ will unlock 90% of the game. You should also keep up with your class quests, as some of them teach new attacks that will help in battle. And finally, look for the blue quests with the + icon. Those are the quests that unlock optional things(be they dungeons, the casino, the ability to dye or change the appearance of your gear, a new emote, or any number of other things). There is no shortage of things to do in this game for sure. I've been playing for just under a month, and truthfully it feels very overwhelming the sheer number of things to do (but still very satisfying). I am currently a Level 36 dragoon and only at Level 22 on the main story quest line, and have already put over 100 hours in the game, if that's any indication. So far, I have stuck with only one adventuring class, although I have delved into all the crafting and gathering classes. Between FATEs, battle and grand company leves, challenges, quests (which I do enjoy), and dungeons (which I am gradually warming up to, although at my level the people I've been paired with are whole dungeon pullers so it hasn't been that fun yet), there is no shortage of ways to level up your character.

I second what the previous poster said about the blue quests with the + icon. These are particularly important as they increase the number of available things that you can do. The biggest milestones in the beginning are doing the main quest in your starting city so you can unlock all the starting cities (and get more blue quests), and to continue to progress the story to Level 20 and join a grand company so you can get a chocobo, which will make your life much easier.
