What do you think of the idea of a single player (not an FC) owning an airship

Personally I think that it should be handled differently as to not stop on the toes of FCs that already invested in it and kill a few birds with one stone. Primarily being a method to get instanced housing of some sort.

The idea being that you though a series of events, wind up with the ability to command an airship, which serves as an instance that you can freely decorate and staff like a house, as well as a means to go on adventures of a sky piracy sort.

What this would do is ensure that every adventurer has a place to call home, offer up another use for the airship parts, and have an avenue for more combat-oriented content that can be done solo or with a team of customizable NPCs akin to Squadrons, which would have the flavor of raiding other sky pirates' airships and braving a different part of the sea of clouds for treasure (The Diadem being changed to a gathering instance...for the better I might add) and possibly offer another way to get treasure maps.

This would actually make a pretty solid expansion for the Grand Company and Squadron systems we already have. At X rank you could earn the right to command a small airship. Perhaps your squadron members could actually also function as your crew, or perhaps there could be a separate set of members you recruit and level that are purely airship crew.

This I like this.

Sounds like a more interesting version of instanced housing.

Would be really nice in my opinion. I was really sad they just put sky pirates into the HW raid and then let them rot there. Hopefully maybe we get more airship content and skypirates. ^^

Would love this, as long as it's not locked behind housing. Adding it as a separate room that people can access from apartments would be great.

Even being in a FC most of the time the members can't benefit from the airship as only the leaders control it.

Would be strange to lock something with a instanced housing aspect like what I proposed in the OP behind housing :P

I'm assuming that the FC workshops would be one point of entry into the personal airship, but the ship would also be accessed by Airship landings already scattered throughout The Source for people that do not have an FC with a workshop.

Ohhhhh that sounds great! Kinda like how diadem worked? With us being able to go in through Ishgard and through workshop?
