Extreme stuttering.

Hello there, for some time now, my game has been suffering from an intolerable amount of micro stutter. I've tried ignoring it knowing it was merely time until I found some sort of fix but that hasn't happened. And it's come to the point where I simply cannot continue playing because it truly hurts my eyes to look at any sort of movement in the game.

Some explanation:
- I'm running FFXIV on a more than capable system, with high fps
- I have a very steady, reliable internet connection, so that's not a problem either (thank you GM who told me to restart my router after I explained it was purely a graphical issue.)

some observations:
- I've played around with all kinds of settings, both graphical and otherwise, both in game and in my gpu software.
- so far, windowed and borderless windowed are about the same in experience, whereas full screen is noticeably -worse-.
- I played with capped fps at 60, with a 60hz screen as well. uncapping it, again, made it noticeably worse, turning it further down to 30 left me scarred and traumatized.
- I 've also cleaned house in my pc, it's a fairly new pc, I could find nothing wrong here either.

So this is kind of a last-ditch effort to find a way to make this game playable. Really been loving my time here, the story has been amazing, but unfortunately, the visuals have been burning my eyes out.

Have you you tried updating the graphics drivers? Try and disable any overlays you may have active (Geforce Experience, Discord overlay, etc.). These have been known to interfere with the game in some situations.

I apologize for the delay in our response to your concern. When the stuttering occurs, are you connected to WiFi or are you connected directly to the router? Does the stuttering occur any in specific areas or anywhere in game?

I had extreme stuttering when I switched to dx9 while attempting to fix another issue.
If you are not already running the game in dx11, try and change it in the launcher settings.

If you already checked that stuff, please ignore me. I just couldn't see any information about what direct x version you were running the game in, and it sounds exactly like what I experienced :)

Can confirm that the game is running with Dx11.

I really want the continue playing but the stuttering graphics have just gotten ridiculous at this point. I've continued experimenting with various settings but no solution presents itself.

I also run ff14 with my monitor at 60hz and 60 FPS limit. Long story, but I had an AMD 5700xt in my system over the weekend. Brand new Powercolor Red Devil. For whatever reason, this card caused heavy stutters for me no matter what settings I tried. I returned it and got an RTX 2070 super and the stutters aren’t nearly as bad now. I think the AMD cards just downclock too much when not under load, and I couldn’t find a way to lock the clock (nvidia allows you to lock to the base clock by setting it to “maximum performance mode”). Only thing I can do is offer suggestions of trying different AMD drivers or disabling Freesync. In my experience FF14 doesn’t play well with variable refresh rate settings.

Have any changes happened to the device before the issue began? We would also like to recommend several other troubleshooting steps:

1) Make sure that your hardware is not overheating and remove any overclocks you may have on your graphics card or processor. Please check that any fans or vents are clear of blocks.
2) Disable any additional programs that could cause interference with the game itself including chat programs. Also, remove any custom configurations made using graphics driver-level programs
3) Remove any mods or injectors from the game or system
4) Turn off Fullscreen Optimizations. Find the executable file for the game (normally found in the install folder), right-click it and select 'Properties'. Under the 'Compatibility' tab, check the box labeled 'Disable Fullscreen Optimizations', then click 'Apply'.
5) Remove any unnecessary USB or audio devices (controllers, headphones, flash drives etc.)
6) Perform a clean boot by opening the task manager and select the 'Start up' Tab. Disable everything
