Friend bought the starter edition, still says he's on the free-trial

EDIT: The problem has been fixed, thank you everyone for your suggestions and help.


I got my friend to try out the free-trial with him enjoying it quite a bit, so he ended up buying the starter edition where it only comes with the base game (all through steam). He took the cd key to his mogstation and inputted it under the option to "enter item code" with the key being accepted.

His mogstation shows that his account type is standard (steam), that he owns the license for the base game under pc, and that he has the 30 days subscription "free-play period" that comes along with the starter edition. Though his characters, old ones and newly created ones, still have all the restrictions that comes with the free-trial with the only exception being that he has 40 character slots instead of 8.

any help would be greatly appreciated as all this trouble is only turning him away from playing this game in the future and thanks in advance.

If your friends hasn't yet, log out of the game, exit the game client and Steam, then log back in to Steam and then the game to see if the status changes.

There also may be a delay in all restrictions lifting, so to allow payment for the account to be processed.

Thanks for the reply, but we've already attempted that.

To further clarify, the free-trial and game purchase were both done through steam the day before i started this thread. So i'm not entirely sure if payment processing would still be an issue.

As far as the restrictions go, he hasn't reached very far being only lvl 10 atm. The game still prevents him from using the delivery moogle stating "This function is not available on the free trial" and won't let me trade with him, saying that it's not available for him yet.

He shouldnt put it in "enter item code" tho. That's not an item code.


It would go in upgrade account or register game code. Something along those lines.

Did he make a new service account accidentally?

Have your friend check their Steam Games Library to see what edition it shows.

Someone in our FC had this same problem with their account purchased through Steam. Mogstation showed the correct license. Steam showed the purchase in purchase history but his games library showed only the trial edition. He had to contact Steam support to get it straightened out.

this is why I recommend to people never use Steam to buy an MMO. Just go directly to the game maker.

He checked and says that it shows up as Final Fantasy XIV Online and not free-trial, so that doesn't seem to be the problem.

Even if that's the wrong place to input it, trying to use the code again just says it's already been used. I also checked and it only shows 1 service account on his mogstation.

He's already submitted a ticket to customer support, so if there are any other suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

[edit]: also one more thing to add, it seems he still has all the restriction that goes with the free-trial in effect. Not sure on the overall character limit but the game still limits him to one character per server, can't invite other players, trade, etc...
