Caimie's Diadem Fishing Guide :)

Sorry if this sort of guides have been posted before, but I created this today, both for myself and for others who need it. Hope it helps some people! :o

EDIT: The guide has been updated with using Patience instead of Patience II. The most important reason is that you can wait for the timer of Patience to expire and use Double Hook. This is better than using Precision Hookset during Patience II. Thanks to Espritduo (Esprit Libre) for the suggestions!

So I couldn't catch a single Gobbie Mask in 4 hours. It's annoying. I have pentamelded facet gear. Used Diadem red balloon. AOTF says it is easy to catch... but 0 in 4 hours is just fcked up. Or I'm doing something wrong...?!

Definitely something wrong.

My recent records:
Session 1 - 2 Gobbies in 30 min
Session 2 - 5 Gobbies in 40 min
Session 3 - 4 Gobbies in 50 min
Session 4 - 3 Gobbies in 15 min
Session 5 - 1 Gobbie in 5 min, but 0 Gobbies in the next 10 min
... with a rate like this, it makes no sense to not see 1 Gobbie in 4 hours. Hence, definitely something wasn't done right.

I guess we can try a bunch of troubleshooting questions...
- Are you certain you're standing at the right spot?
- Are you using Patience II when Mooch II is on cooldown to increase the chances of Mooching?

Fisher's RNG is just really aggravating sometimes...
It also took me QUITE awhile to get something, and all the while I was wondering if I was doing anything wrong.

It sure is... I've had 35 min without any Gobbie before (then it showed up on the 40 min mark).
But 4 hours with no Gobbie seems a bit too long even for RNG... unless you're really the most unlucky person...

why patience II? isn't patience I good enough? and isn't II too much of a GP drain?

I never used Patience II. It costs too much GP, too long of a timer, and too high of a failure rate if you try to double hook with it up anyways. You want to be double hooking every single gobbie mask. A single gobbie is a lost gobbie. This means holding your mooches and letting the Patience timer run out so you can freely double hook the gobbie. Some people like taking the risk of double hooking while under Patience if you immediately get a cloud cutter as soon as you put patience up, but I never liked doing that and made out just fine always letting the timer run out. You also shouldn't be wasting your time and GP reeling in anything that isn't a cloud cutter or a gobbie. The points from anything that isn't a gobbie are so small that you waste more time and GP reeling them in than just letting them get away and maximizing gobbie bites only. Unless you want the mats from them or are catching Anomalocaris for the achievements.

Should also mention that 2050 Gathering is the cut off for gobbies never escaping.

EDIT: For reference, during the Restoration, I was averaging 50-60k points per 3 hour session once I settled into my routine. That's 30-40 gobbie masks in 3 hours, or roughly 10-13 per hour. So four hours without any gobbies at all definitely means you were doing something incorrectly.

The use of Patience/Patience II is because it greatly increases chance of Mooching when Mooch II is under down time. I'd rather be actively Mooching under Patience/Patience II rather than keep trying to land an HQ Cloudcutter without success.

I use Patience II instead of Patience because I've had Cloudcutters that were NQ instead of HQ when under Patience. I found if I go Patience II, 100% of the Cloudcutters I get will be HQ. This greatly increases my chance of Mooching.

As for why not using Patience so that I have enough GP for Double Hook, I've had the experience of actually the Gobbie escaping when using Double Hook or Hook under Patience II.

Is 2050 Gathering the cut off for gobbies never escaping under normal condition? Or never escaping under Patience?

I only have 2001 Gathering even when I'm under food. I fine-tuned my stats for MIN/BTN to achieve 2426 gathering/ 2348 perception/ 846 GP to maximize yields (2421/2345 are necessary). So I have no room for melding another 50 Gathering. This probably means I'll have Gobbies escaping if I'm using Hook or Double Hook under either Patience of Patience II.
