Please add a private messaging feature

Hi I've started playing ffxiv 2 or so months ago and I've absolutely fallen in love with it.
But I am wondering why there's no private messaging option that is common in most multiplayer games.
Even someone in your friends list cannot be directly talked to in a little pop up window.
The /tell + "username" is kind of a pain to type all the time that is difficult to keep track off specially with FC chat + battle notifications.
It just would be nice if the feature was added
