Forums?

I like writing, and since I am a bit into RP, I had an idea or two to compose some fan-fic'y stuff diving into some of the main story scenarios in more depth. But it seems the forums don't accommodate that and my post in lore was deleted; with out anyone telling me why or where to go. So... do they just not welcome my sort around these parts? The game SEEMS like it wants some creativity from players, like it WANTS the role playing and such; but it provides no room for it? It's kind of offensive. So much so that I am seriously thinking about whether I wasted money to buy the game; and maybe it would be a waste to keep the sub up.

I mean, there are plenty of other avenues to host your fanfiction or roleplaying, I'm not sure why they need to be on official forums. There are FFXIV communities all over the place.

If you only bought and play the game, in order to roleplay on forums, then perhaps the game isn't for you anyway?

'Role playing' is typically done in game.
If you have/are looking for a community, these can be found in game or out, and you can communicate via discord, where you are free to set up any kind of thread/format you like, or share links to reddit, or whatever.

Unfortunately, this is SE's forum so they can decide what is off-topic and what isn't, and they must have regarded a fanfiction post as "not a lore topic". Usually posts/threads being deleted without any explanation are a result of someone reporting the thread/post (by clicking the yellow triangle in the bottom left corner of each post) as off-topic and a moderator/GM acting accordingly. The GMs act according to their information given so they are not to blame for this. Sadly there isn't really anything that can be done about it I'm afraid as it's part of the terms of service of the forum that posts have to adhere to each section's purpose and that SE do reserve the right to delete or lock any topic they deem unrelated to it.

Hence why it's better to post fanfiction on a fan site that is better suited to such things - Fanfiction.net is the big one, but there is also the FFXIV Hydaelyn Roleplayers community that has ongoing RP stories.

Either way, please don't get discouraged! FFXIV is an amazing game and although the forum community is actually very good, the official forums are probably not the best to outright post actual fanfics of your adventures, but don't give up! Look beyond the official forum and you should find a place to post your journey!

You don't honestly believe that. If you did, you wouldn't have wrote it in the first place. The deletion simply killed its value to you and you shouldn't allow it to be that way.

Have you found the blog-function on the lodestone yet? Its pretty much your personal space to post pretty much whatever you want (unless its extremly inappropriate...) - you get a comment-fucntion, where you can directly engage with other people aswell.

The forum is... well, for discussions, mostly - there are some hidden creativty sections, but those are pretty much only for art, not for stories.

Ahem, with the lore-section being about official stories / aspects of the game, it's not really the best idea to put there fanfiction-related things.

(Also, I rather call it offensive when RP-players stand right at a fresh event-spot and spam the regular talk-chat without even grasping why we others aren't fond of their doing. :coughcough: Our devs, on the other hand, don't always make the best decisions, yet can be comprehended, at least.)

If you look for a spot to post / read fanmade FFXIV-texts, I can recommend ArchiveOfOurOwn.org or fanfiction.net, though I'm these days only active at the former. And RP-players should be easy to find via Discord, if I am informed correctly.

If you're on the Crystal data center, there's plenty of RP to go around. Specifically around Balmung and Mateus. Those are the major two hotspots. I'd give them a try and see if you can express your creativity there! There's always people looking for RP on those servers. :)

I saw your post briefly - didn't read it because I wasn't looking to read fanfiction out of the blue, regardless of potential quality. The thread title didn't say that's what it was, and it just launched into the story without any sort of greeting or blurb. So I backed straight out again.

If you'd started by asking if this was the right place to post things, you might have gotten a response.

It's a pity we don't have a dedicated fanworks subforum, but the Lore forum isn't it. If you're writing a story and need help with information (either what's in the game or how to make an idea work within the game's rules) then yes, do come and discuss it. But we're in an awkward place with nowhere on the forum to post your finished work. The actual lore discussion would get lost if people started using that forum to post fanworks.

I would suggest hosting it externally, and maybe starting a thread in General Discussion posting your links.

You get a free blog per character and a free private forum per FC.
The Lodestone is a lot more than a quick character bio and access to the forums we’re on right now.
