Who will keep playing once you need to start paying?

This might be a very bad idea for a thread but I am hoping that people can be mature enough to try to give some feedback to SE on what everyone is thinking.

Personally I will probably not keep playing once it is no longer free, I will likly come back if the game gets good enough so I can get my friends back into it. Only way I see that happeneing is by more ls activities that are meaningfull, like a couple of actual encounters that we need to be near gear cap to win. BCNM types events where we do not have to camp an NM for hours. An Assault/einherjar/nyzul style of event that we can do in smaller parties once or twice a week where we can play on our own schedules, as in not like dyna where there was a limited number of instances and you needed to form schedules with others.

Unless thses things happen I will likly not pay for this game.
What doe severyone else think?

I most likely won't unless there's a reason to stick around with the game. How about actual content hmm?

Rule number 1 in project management, SUNK COST IS SUNK. that being said I understand what you saying but sometimes the smartest thing a manager can do is just let the project fail and restart. I take that same view when playing games, if there is something out there that will provide me with more fun go for that. But then agian I look at games a ssomething that is suppsoed to be fun, I don't treaet it like an investement or a mutual fund.

I don't think they will start charging for a while, they still need beta testers for the current state of the game.

I can't say yet as they aren't ready to bill us for the current state of the game.

That being said, if they charged now I would not. If the upcoming changes to the battle system are good and the content starts rolling out with goals that make me want to play, and accomplish with friends, I will be more than happy to pay the monthly fee.

I definitely will, since I believe all key members of my LS will.

I'm probably in the minority, but I'd be ok with paying for the game as it is right now. They finally have the base of the game down, to what I feel it should have been when it launched. The thought that the game will constantly be tweaked and that new content is on its way adds to that feeling.

I'm excited to see the game evolve from the state it's in right now to something grand in a year's time. The potential the game holds is immense, and just comparing the current version to how it was near the end of open beta/launch shows how far it's come.

As an added bonus, I look forward to two or three years from now, when all the little nooblings join and us oldtimers get to wow them with stories from ye olde times.

I'll still play. Though at the moment, like everyone said. It needs more content of coolness. But, all I do when I am on is do crafting, crafting leve. And also some solo leve. I would also love to see FFXIV get Beseiged like in FFXI, that was sooooo much fun. :)
