As a quick measure, maybe add [default rank] next to the spiky ball rank so it's more self explanatory as to the fact that it is the default rank of someone that joins? Surely just adding a bit of text beside the rank name wouldn't be too complex?

Finally time to get a proper hierarchy system?

This has come up time and again, but we still don't have a proper hierarchy system despite the above sitting there creating expectations of anyone that doesn't specifically search for how the ranks work. Even beyond the word "hierarchy" being used, the expectation of it's functionality is bolstered by the ability to move the ranks up and down the list. We don't need ranks to be able to promote/demote above their (currently only perceived) rank and at best there should be an option to promote to/demote from the same rank level.

This is long overdue and I'm really hoping we get a proper hierarchy. Only having the appearance of a hierarchy has caused so much trouble over the years, with many FCs getting stung due to people expecting FFXIV to operate in the same way as other MMOs.
In other games I have played, 'promote' only gave you the ability to promote to the rank below your own. That would surely be the most sensible way of doing things.

(slightly off-topic) If they are looking at FC permissions, I'd also like them to consider making it possible for FC leaders to restrict the ability to interact with furnishings. Having rare fish removed from the tank, wall-papers removed or seasonal food eaten is not trivial for FCs where house-design is an important part of their game, especially when replacing those items would mean spending money in the Mog-Shop.

I'd like them to actually fix the ranking and promote/demote system which is the core of the issue. I never understood why the game only sees 2 ranks, master and everybody else.
