Multiple roles queuing

Hey,

So I don't know if this idea have been discussed or given a thought here in this forums before, but I've always wanted this to happen and it would be really awesome if it does.

Instead of queuing for dungeons, roulette, or any kind of duty that would be normally in the Duty Finder with a certain class, certain roles can be selected i.e (Tank/Healer/DPS).

When the queue pops, the player could choose whatever class they want to pick that can fulfill the role (chosen by the duty) and the usual requirement of the duty (class level, item level,.. etc) before they commence (it would refuse commencing anything that does not fulfill the requirement as it would normal do if you are on the wrong class).

I can see this potentially helping the queuing system rather than crippling it.

This comes to me usually when I'm farming my weekly tomestone cap or I'm bored and I want to queue up for something. I have maxed almost all of my classes and I would play anything and any role if that means it would speed things up.

I'm aware that the duty finder system tells you that it needs certain roles, but I do feel it would be nice to have this element of role choosing rather than queuing with whatever class you are on.

I'm not sure how technical it would be to implement, if it is easy or impossible but I'd hope it would or was considered before, and if it was considered by the devs and it is hard to implement I'd love to hear the reason why.

Not to be a debbie downer or anything, but this seems like it could lead to some complications with the given state of DF queues.

1. Most people still want to just be DPS, so you'd almost always be getting into your queue on all three roles, only to wind up in tank or healer almost exclusively.

2. If lot of people multi-role queue, then there's a concern that people who cannot multi-role queue would be at a disadvantage for queue times. Even if there's no actual issue with the queues themselves from introducing multi-role queue, there'd be a controversy from the players who don't want to level or play more than one role/class.

3. I'm not sure how the game would put you into the queue in a way that works. Say you queue for all 3 roles. It puts you in party 1 as a Tank, party 2 as a healer, and party 5 as a DPS. Whichever party fills first is the one you'd go in on, but wouldn't the party that fills first be the first party in the queue for said DF thing? Meaning, you just wind up queuing as what is in need or whatever, more often than not, kind of defeating the purpose of having the feature, no? Maybe I'm wrong, but that's just the way my brain's parsing the idea.

4. Given that multiple multi-role people would be queuing, how would the game decide what role to make each person if 4~8 multi role queued individuals all wind up in the same party?

Honestly I find the idea intriguing, but I think it'd just over complicate things and possibly break the system.

WoW already has a system of sorts like this for the hybrid classes (i.e. classes that have specializations for more than one role), and as some who mained druid (tank/healer/dps) and demon hunter (tank/dps), I can safely tell you literally all it does is auto-sort you into whatever queue you checked is more lacking (on WoW, it’s always tank priority because pretty much no one wants to tank, then healer) so it’s not going to be any different from how it is here aside from the fact you can change your classes on FFXIV.

Letting you pick realistically just isn’t going to happen either because most of the time, healer queue is instant queue due to the large shortage of healers. Tanking typically is a few minutes more. DPS always is 15 minutes minimum (unless you’re doing Crystal Tower, and even then it’s longer than tank/healer queue).

As nice as it would be to just throw different roles out, we already have precedent that it’s not much different. Personally though, I wouldn’t mind not having to switch my class to queue as that class but it probably isn’t worth the coding effort for the team. But if they could QoL the queue on anything, I’d just ask for that.
