5.2 Melding change - Almost right.

From the patch notes:
"The Materia Melding menu can now display items that have reached the maximum number of melded materia."

Yes, it works, IF you have any gear that can still accept melds to open the menu on.

If you want to analyze your maxed-out set to see what changes you can make, first you'll have to equip one meldable item, open the melding interface on it, the check the show all box, then look at the rest of the items.

It should have been: Just on any item, full or not, and see them all immediately. The checkbox should still let you toggle between show and hide full items.

You can open the melding menu from the Actions menu under the General section (or /ac "Advanced Materia Melding"), even if you are carrying nothing that can be melded further.

Or you can open the melding interface from the context menu of any item and then use the dropdown in the melding window to change which items are displayed.

The 'Meld' option will be greyed out if you can't meld anything else onto that particular piece of gear, which (if I read the first post right) is the whole complaint the OP had. The same thing's true of Repair; if the gear isn't below 100%, the 'Repair' option will be grayed out, even if other gear somewhere else is repairable.

However, in both cases, you can—somewhat non-obviously—use the actual action button from Actions -> General and open the interface directly, then see if there's anything to meld or repair. Or even put those actions on a hotbar if you want. Not that I've done that with Repair or anything.

(Pushing Daisies narrator voice: In fact, the healer had put the Repair icon on her hotbar, for having to search through every piece of gear—equipped or otherwise—to find if any were indeed in need of repair was a source of great and frequent irritation to her. And as everyone knows, you never want your healer to be irritated; after all, it's very unpleasant to get salt in your wounds.)

My apologies, I was unclear. I meant that if all your equipped items are fully melded, you can still open the meld interface with some other (unmelded) item in your armoury chest or inventory and then pick "equipped" from the dropdown at the top.

Ah! Yeah, now I see what you were trying to say. Functionally it's the same thing as using the icon from the Actions panel (or putting it on a hotbar); using the action directly just skips the step of finding something else in your armoury chest (or a random dungeon drop in your inventory) to use the pulldown on. But if you don't have a free hotbar space and don't like putting up the Actions panel to click the icon, your suggestion is definitely the easiest way to figure out "do I have anything I still can meld?"

Thanks all, I had looked in the general actions menu before posting, but I was looking for something that began with "M", and completely missed. Now it's on my side bar, just above Gyashi Greens :)
