Meh not really bummed about it. Feel bad for those who took time off for it though, but how things go sometimes.
As the quote goes "A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad." Though in the era of patches and dlc maybe that's not as true as it used to be, but still better to be delayed for a good launch.
I would rather a game be delayed so it can be finished and polished rather than rushed out almost 100% of the time, the only exception being if a game is suffering from major feature creep and they really should just cut the fat and polish the core rather than continuing to add to the game.
But I'm also someone who's going into the FFVII remake a bit wary rather than with outright excitement. A remake of FFVII with updated graphics and voice acting added etc? I'd hop right onto that. Completely redoing the gameplay, potentially altering story beats, and splitting it into multiple games has me nervous. I didn't like FFXII's combat style that felt like half turn based and half actiony, we'll see if I like this more or not. Never had a ps3 so never played XIII. The idea of splitting up the game and expanding the world along the way 'could' be awesome if done well, but if it ends up feeling like padding, that's going to be bad.
I think they delayed the game a month because of the FF7 Remake Demo Leaks on Youtube. Someone jailbroken their PS4 and extracted the demo .PKG to play the demo early...
Oh man they're releasing it around the time Cyberpunk comes out? RIP.
guess I wont be playing it now since cyberpunk is 5 days after that. llooks bad that they have to delay it, the leaks must be true.
I can’t remember who, exactly. But I seem to remember a developer working on the game tweeting how disappointed he was that there were leaks of the demo. Also, are you sure? I’m quite certain the leak news came from users with a jailbroken PS4 posting videos on YouTube.
Well, it's disappointing to me that it's delayed. There's already a lot of games coming out during the next few months that I consider to be day one purchases, so my free time will be stretched rather thin. The leak was pretty huge though so I guess there's going to be a last ditch effort to apply more polish to the final product.
I'd argue that a patched game is a delayed game and that everything before it is "Early Access". I'll point to No Man's Sky and FFXIV as two examples because technically the game wasn't really "launched" until 2.0. (and technically, there were patches that lessened the bad of FFXIV 1.0).
Controversial opinion: I think the ATB only works in select games in the FF series. 5, 8, X-2 (to a degree), 9 on PC, and I'm split on 13. I like X's combat the best, the slower stopping for turns let's me think through moves and I like that, as well as the turn order display helps a lot imo and I'm surprised more games haven't used this, it feels like only games like Octopath Traveler have. Anyway, 5, 8, and X-2 have less items to manage due to having less actions per-class/character and X-2 actually displays when the game is waiting. 9 with the mouse is very fast and i love it. 13 is good once you get going, but it's got a lot of moments where it just comes to a halt because you don't have all your party or the AI is being an butt allows me to pause and step back a second.
However, I also think redoing the combat immediately doesn't make it a remake, and I feel like that's even more controversial an opinion than the combat. But hear me out, a Remake implies you're essentially doing a ground-up copy, not unlike taking a painting and painstakingly recreating it by hand, but improving where need be. IE: Crash Bandicoot adding a normal save system to the first game, box saving to both the original and the second. Changing combat and the, iirc, changing major story elements is no longer a remake. I have the same problem with the Ratchet and Clank "Remakes" because the movie and game are nothing like the original game and that remake has made me wary of all remakes that say stuff like changing combat.
Anyway, 5.2 looks amazing, I think I'll wait on the 7 Remake to be done FULLY if they are keeping with the whole episodic release.
