[About Blu] Does anyone else got the feeling that Aetheric Mimicry…

..brought a fresh twist on Blue? Yeah sure it's still limited and most of the comm probably still want it as a normal job - but the paradigm system with Aetheric Mimicry already brought some possibilities to play around... Personal i kinda enjoy 8 grp content or 4x men dngs playing a Synergist/Saboteur paradigm with Healer Mimic. Lot's of buffs/debuffs and support skills paired with some primal/raid and movement abilities to weave in.

So yeah anyone else think this patch was good for Blue or is the majority still unsatisfyed with its current state? ^^

I think the majority are still unsatisfied, its an interesting concept, but youre basically locked into tank and healer stance because to refresh it you need to leave the instance, not to mention the fact the tank stance is very underwhelming. The arbitrary 100% uptime devilment on the dps stance as well feels very unispired, and is clearly just there to carry its dps output

Tank mimicry barely helps BLU's survivability, while healing mimicry mostly just makes the healing skills actually functional instead of just wastes of MP (Exuviation being the sole exception due to the Esuna effect that's needed both for the new Carnivale fights and raids). The former should also boost HP and change other skills like Veil of the Whorl to have defensive benefits, while the healing spells should be actually viable for non-healers, but more efficient on healer mimicry (Perhaps due to lower MP costs instead of lower potencies)

Actually finding a player to change stances can also be really tedious due to weapon being the only obvious indicator of class and something that can be hidden.

It's a neat idea, but poorly executed IMO.

Aetherial Mimicry is a joke to be honest. They strugged with BLU as a concept so added in an ability which just defines BLU into normal job structure roles.
What was the point of it not just being a normal job then?

Just my opinion, and I respect anyone that likes current BLU and wants it to stay, but its a bit of a failed experiment to me if they tried to define it as a "jack of all trades isnt like any other normal job" type gimik, then tried to make its gameplay more relevant by just making it play more like a normal job. Either go all the way in either direction or dont bother.

I like the concept behind Aetheric Mimicry but it's pretty lackluster. The effects don't feel very strong outside of the healer ones which change skills a bit and having to find a player with the class you need is a weird design decision that isn't convenient.

ill let you know once i start trying to get the Morbol mount in 8-player raids with all blu, no echo, 4 dps AM (aetherial mimicry), 2 tanks with frog legs, avail/et al., and 2 whms.

right now? looks satisfying on paper, in its own self-contained way.

HOWEVER ...

the dissatisfied, ffxi-er in me wanted/is wishing for (based on ffxiv blu quest lore so far) full dps job status.

i feel thats the direction the job is going?

but thats probably more optimistic than realistic on my part.

In specific regards to Aetheric Mimicry, it needs work. My personal biggest issue with the spell is the way it functions. It's a neat concept, but needing to copy the role of another player is convoluted and annoying when you can't find the role you need. I would rather have it work like Monk's Form Shift, cycling through each role when cast and doesn't require a target.

Overall, no, I wouldn't call this a good patch for Blue Mage. I don't see a point to the Blue Mage Log. If Blue Mage were a full job with normal Duty Finder access, players could setup their own BLU-only groups at their own discretion.

hmm i see so people still compare it to the "standard systems" instead taking it in another way/approach. If we look at it from that point of view it doesn't matter what they do - nothing will be good enough, but releasing it as full job. Maybe I kinda like the current idea cause im waiting for a mime-cls ever since. And Mimes, won't make it to a full job at all in Eorzea. : /

I personally noticed that I encounter the funniest and most humble runs with randoms in side content hypes like Eureka or Blu Spell/Log farms. Whats kinda weird on the other hand cause most comments about that kind of content are like "another boring grind fest - better make it like xyz"... therefor i was just interested if Blu 50-60 changed some minds for the better, but it doesn't seem like that - maybe with the next patch ^^

yeah im really curious how the mount runs and ally raids would turn out in full Blu Grps <3

Honestly, with the initial reaction to BLU, the "all-rounder" Trust jobs, the mimicry and quest line focusing on BLU being able to fill all roles, I'm starting to think their plan is to make BLU a full "all-rounder" job in 6.0 that gets queued based on the mimicry you're on (and likely requires specific spells equipped to meet the requirement to be the role).

This would very likely mean no new jobs but I think people would take it to get one that could do any role.

I think the added structure to blue mage this patch just angered the people that really wanted the OP mess we were told blu had to be to try to get people like myself that want blu to be a real job on board. However, I think it just made us want a real job version even more because it feels even closer to being one. This patch has done nothing to make me feel better about blu being limited and I've doubled down on wanting it to be a job we can play the full game with. I don't mind if they continue with the carnival.
