I have not used it with this game but I've used it with other games (even games that have no native controller support)and it works really good, you can just assign buttons to keyboard buttons and I'm guessing you can do the same for this.
There's also an option to just let it copy an xbox controller (if I'm not mistaken).
One thing you need to get used on is the trackpad on the right instead of a joystick on the normal controllers. But I found it works really well and pretty accurate.
You can even play RTS games with that trackpad.
So it's arrived and it's quite an adjustment. The ABXY buttons are really small and cramped together, the trackpad is hard to manage camera angles with i'm finding, and I keep confusing the back paddles with the L2 and R2 buttons when trying to activate skills. I apologize to everyone who grouped with me during today's testing... it was... uhhh very rough... lol... HOWEVER!!! It does work great with other games like was said though. Played Civ 6 as well and it is super intuitive and easy to use there. So I guess i'll give myself a day or two to keep trying to adjust and if nothing works out will go back to my other controller for this game.
Unless anyone has some tips or tricks they want to share?
I have adjusted to and played with a Steam controller just as black mage before. It worked fine in my experience. Might've been a couple years ago but I think I probably had the arrow pad set to require press instead of touch. Give it time. I learned it through doing FATEs. Involving no one else it didn't matter how I played while adjusting. I probably would have included Trust dungeons if they existed
Also, that was coming from using keyboard and mouse only before. FFXIV does support PS4 controllers if you also have that (you mentioned L2 and R2), and Steam also supports it if you enable it, but FFXIV can do it by itself
