Ideas around Rare/EX Materia

Here are my thoughts that I'd like to see feedback on. And before I elaborate on the idea I have, I'd like to elaborate and respectfully ask commenters to refrain from "this is good", or "this is bad" or "straying completely off topic and topic about dancing rhinos in penguin outfits, surfing on umbrellas throughout the stardust of an exploding supernova while singing along to Eye of the Tiger".

I like the idea of having Rare/Ex Materia drop from NMs that can be applied to Rare/Ex gear/weapon drops. An example would be Ifrit's Fist Materia or Moogle's Eye Materia that would increase the likelihood of these items being sustained and used throughout future game updates/patches.

My reasoning is I don't like the idea of SE releasing some new raid, with weapons/armor that make prior items obsolete (like dark hold items).

Now that I think of it, you can apply this concept to Grand Company items, where a certain GC quest may yield materia that can be applied to GC items only. Like Maelstrom's Eye or Maelstrom's fist materia.

I personally find it very boring and distasteful to see everyone walking around with the same damn armor and/or weapons - and I think a way to keep item diversity is to allow these items to grow with new game content.
