Crafter/Gatherer Instances

So, I was looking around at the gold saucer, and I found myself staring at the Lords of Verminion, chocobo racing, and triple triad duty finders. It got me thinking...

Would it be possible to have instances where disciples of the hand or land can compete against other players or AIs to achieve some goal? For example, DOH may race to complete a high-quality item or create as many collectibles of a particular rarity given a time limit, scaled to a level range.

A variant could even include DOL as "suppliers" who go out and gain the necessary materials for their crafting partner(s). XP, Scrips, or some other form of reward is given for each item gathered/crafted, and at the end, the winning team or player gains more.
