Sort of a suggestion inspired by others, yet an attempt on its own.
I shall start by stating this premise: HEALERS are MORE than JUST HEALERS, and they are SUPPOSED to be able to do MORE
than JUST HEAL.
Support comes in many forms, and even in other FF games not all of thoes forms are giving direct baskets of hp to your DPS diving head first into
the pool that is the enemy aoe markers.
with that being said so here is my suggestion:
WE SHOULD GET RID OF THE "HEALER" CATEGORY ENTIRELY, AND REPLACE IT WITH A "SUPPORT" CATEGORY.
now before yall try to set me on fire allow me to reason with ya.
to make this short ill explain it like this: Final fantasy 5 has many jobs, but i would consider only 1-3 of them as
those that would be put in the actual HEALER role by ff14 standards (white mage, chemist, and Red mage[red mage only because it has access to white magic])
HOWEVER these 3 classes are not the games only "support" -- support, meaning a job able to keep the rest of the party alive/healthy through their abilities -- healing or otherwise.
Time mage] not only has a REGEN ability that can be cast on allies, but also can SLOW and STOP enemies, but also can SPEED UP allies, and if the battle is going bad
at any moment the time mage can straight up RESET the battle like nothing ever happened, and the whole party can try again.
Blue Mage has a party-wide Mighty guard, along with Healing wind (not much of a full healer aresonal, but you can use this to support a party -- bootleg healer)
Bard has an Aoe regen, aoe strength boost, aoe speed boost, aoe mana regen, it even has a STOP, CONFUSE, and DISCOUNT HOLY.
Even Oracle is an ok healer with is Rejuvination and Recuperation (hp restore and esuna)-- and its healing wind and blessing...well they have a chance to activate, but when they hit...ooo lawd they hit.
In fact, when i think of it Chemist wouldnt even be considered a "healer" by ff14 standards because late game its reliable heals are item based and fall off into nigh uselessness, however it has much saving grace in its ability to
use a PARTY WIDE esuna and rez, and its large selection of unique buffs and debuffs, due to this its arguably one of the BEST supports/healers in the game.
what im trying to say with this is i think SE is going about the "HEALER" role all wrong.
by the way the healer classes are set up they have defined healer as something with spam healing, nothing else matters too much.
but as you can guess in my example HEALERS are supposed to be able to do MORE than just HEAL.
And thus i re-instate my suggestion. Get rid of the "HEALER" and replace it with "SUPPORT". The new SUPPORT role will encompass and define "healer" jobs as classes that are able to support and keep the party
alive and healthy -- some may do this in a much different way than just heals.

Except that tanks can do support, DPS, etc., and most DPS have some amount of utility, so what should those be renamed. The names of the roles are their primary jobs. Tanks, even though they can give defensive buffs and even heal sometimes, their main job is tanking. That's what they have to do. DPS, although they can provide some buffs to the party, their main job is attacking. They're the best at it, and it's what they're supposed to do. Healers... well, I'm sure you can guess.

Tanks , and the dps roles are fine. Im saying this for the healers bacause SE has limited the healing class to pretty much ONLY HEALING. every healing class has what is essentially a reskinned, carbon copy of the same 3 skills, and really it seems to be all they need.
Changing the HEALER title to SUPPORT does NOT change the classes themselves, only HOW they are defined. I.e the healers would be defined by more than just their healing, and would open up the next "Healer" to work in a totally different way. Hek, with the SUPPORT title, the next healer would be able to be something that has no direct heal at all, but through other abilities would be able to support and keep the party alive. -

it wont, it would only help the developers to see the role in a different way, and hopefully give them a better idea on more possibilities. the actual changes and improvements come when they decide to focus on something other than the dps role for once XD

And over the years, all they did was nerfing them, more and more. They could have done it with AST, RDM, BLU, and with DNC. We all know what they made of those jobs.

No, what SE wants for the players (or what the majority of the players wants?) is an autistic job that focus entirely on it's mindless rotation. -

As a WHM main, I am absolutely in favour of a change of name from Healer to... well, anything else... because if there is one thing that absolutely boils my bladder, it is healers who don't do any DPS because "it's called Healer, so I heal, mnyyuuuhhhh".
I mean, you wouldn't accept a Tank not using all their toolkit. You wouldn't accept a DPS not using all their toolkit. So why is a Healer not using all their toolkit acceptable?
Answer: It isn't.
If you're a Healer and you don't DPS, you are a burden on your party, a shame to the playerbase, and an insult to the developers who designed, animated, and put audio on all of your DPS abilities. -

If you feel SE has tunneled healers into just healing, then why should the name be changed to "support"? It now makes more sense than ever to call them healers. I think what you're trying to say is you want healers to be more supportive than with just heals.
