It really irritates me that the app in its current iteration only offers chat, inventory management and market board, but not the expected core functionality of sending retainers on ventures.
Even the WoW Companion app offers the functionality of sending your champions on missions like you could do in-game.
I could see the use-case of a trader who constantly buys/sells stuff on the market board, but other than that the app is just a glorified messenger.
Yeah I wish the app offered a lot more than what it currently has. I heard that the PSP Vita works for Final Fantasy XIV well enough if you have a decent network.
My question is WHY DO WE HAVE THE COMPANION APP? I install it on release, use it once, & that was it.
I honestly forget the app even exists until threads like this remind me of it.

The companion app has been a shitshow since launch though. It never had most of the functionality they wanted to put in and the stuff they DID put in doesnt work the way they expressed it would.
It has to do very little to get a lot of use, and it cant manage even that.
Can I set it up to tell me when ships or subs are back? No.
Can I manage ventures with it? No.
Can I set timers to tell me when crops need tending or gathering? No
Can I get competent inventory management out of it? No.
Can I use it to monitor in-game tells from people and beep at me so i dont have to play with in-game sound? No.
At its best, its a worse version of aol messenger. (is that even a thing anymore?)
