Dnc might be in trouble

I hope to anything this is premature but Dnc might have needed a mention in the Live letter because if you leave it as is welp Dnc will be only used for pad runs only.
-Brd getting extra utility yay \0/
-Mch getting potency increase eh nice i guess :s
-Dnc didn't get a mention at all

I'm slightly worried the devs would do nothing to Dnc's potency or rng rate, Dnc is the lowest contributing Dps in terms of rDPS and we are atm with regards to information, staying at our current level where every other ranged dps barring Blm are receiving something (how good they are we will see), this would make us useful for 1 thing only padding a player but it is already more beneficial to run duo Blm over us in terms of clearing with more wiggle room.

This doesn't inspire much confidence they can handle balancing when if Dnc still has 1k+ difference in rDPS between itself and the lowest end of the next tier of DPS

DNC and MCH both got listed. They're said to get potency buffs and have some of their cd time reduced to make the job do more damage.


Doesn't help the outcry of MCH's but for DNC if it's even it should be alright.

To be honest, I may not be one for unbridled fear, but it's one that's there. BRD is literally on the bleeding edge of taking us over and flat out leaving DNC as the lowest DPS since the rDPS gap isn't that big between those two jobs; not to mention, they're getting their party utility back from Stormblood. My guess is it'll be rather miniscule, but it's still an issue we have to consider.

As with what we've seen how they've handled DPS in the past, they've either overtuned them(i.e. MCH/BRD in late Heavensward) or heavily undertuned them(RDM). Even if people follow the "wait and see" mantra, given the information that was given to us we're probably going to see SAM shift above MNK, NIN shift right next to DRG, MCH right behind, then SMN, then BRD, RDM, DNC in terms of aDPS.

At least, that's what I'm speculating unless they pull a big one on us come patch notes. They still need to adjust their tooltips to NOT MISLEAD the playerbase by saying it'll give you Esprit for Weaponskills, but only at a % chance.

cool both me and my friend missed that completely and thought they were just talking about mch, still leaves the problem of will Brd's new utility make them overall better than Dnc so we are still in a perilous position within our role let alone the grand scope of things

Dancer really needs some tweaks. I love the job but with bard getting it buffs back it does make me concerned. Dancer needs potency buffs and the consistency of its Esprit gain adjusted. That and Inspiration just needs a complete redo. Not only does it want you to stand still for 15 seconds but then it depends on how many of your party stacks in it. Its just not worth the trouble and theres limited windows you actually can use it.

I love this class but im already picturing the pf nightmare of dancer being blocked out cause a bard bring the buffs and better dmg.

DNC and MCH get potency buff, BRD get utility buff while keeping the current potency (no potency buff)
Sound fair to me...

Until we've seen actual numbers for the various potency buffs for the lower half dps classes we can only speculate. But so far it sounds all fair to me and they've acknowledged things that are wrong with certain classes:
- DNC is too weak in terms of rDPS even with a really good dance partner
- BRD losing his support drove too many players away from that class, escpecially paired with relatively low rDPS
- MCH lagging behind in terms of rDPS while not having anything signifcant to justify it
- RDM getting taxed way too strongly for raise, making it generally undesired as soon as the raid stopped dying from stupid

On the other hand, MNKs utility paired with its high rDPS placed them clearly ahead of other melees when it's SAM and BLM who should have the highest dps potential of their respective archetypes for not having support.
So overall I think they did well on spotting things that needed some adjustment in order to bring the classes closer together. Now we just need to wait for actual numbers. Someone in our static thought about switching from DNC to MNK because DNC has such a low dps ceiling and it's understandably frustrating trying to optimize a class knowing you still won't be near others even if you're playing top-notch. But I think they're well-aware of the problems DNC mains currently face.

I think they did a good job of it too, but we need to know where things are going to go in regards to BRD's rDPS and how they're raising DNC's pDPS. If it turns out that BRD's rDPS and pDPS eclipse DNC outright then they'll need to look at it for certain. I just wonder how they're not gonna step over the line this time despite DNC being very playable(just has the same issue HW/SB MCH had: proc reliance for damage).

A part of BRD regained support will no doubt raise its rDPD because if all other classes from the lower half get buffs, like MCH and RDM, BRD has to stay on par somehow and utility like dmg mitigation or MP regen are nice and all but quickly become obsolete. Outside progress they'd be left behind because in the end it always comes down to dmg > all.
They can't let its rDPS stay where it is while buffing all others outright through potency increases. So far BRD was only a bit above DNC if looking at the upper quartile and assuming both were played well.
But I'm sure they'll take that into account when buffing DNC.
It's always difficult to balance classes that are reliant on procs and the competence of others, though. If you don't have a good dance partner who knows how to get most out of buff windows, your rDPS will suck. Add varying proc luck to that and you have huge discrepancies even if you played exactly the same. And I figure that if at least part of their regained support will raise rDPS it's something BRDs will also face.
I had my Embolden add something between 200-700 rDPS, depending not only on the setup but also how well the others were able to line up their own buffs and utilize burst windows.
