Server lag: can it be addressed?

Something really needs to be done about it, using the Ifrit fight as an example, it has pretty much turned him into a cheating whore! I enjoy a good challenge, but there is nothing fun about being destroyed by eruptions that appear under you three at a time, and detonate instantly before you can even react. It is not a fair challenge when plumes can kill you even after you have run well clear of them, and when Ifrit can hit you during a charge while you are standing in one of the safe spots, without landing a scratch on other members of your party who are standing in the EXACT same place at the time, that is NOT a challenge, that is hax.

I honestly don't think it has anything to do with my end. I was having severe connection issues at the beginning of the year, and I pretty much beat my ISP senseless with customer complaints for a month until they fixed it. (For awhile, my bandwith was slightly higher than what I was paying for.) I seem to recall SE saying something about an issue with the current server that was affecting network status. Is this issue still being addressed?

You're correct. It has nothing to do on your end.

The servers are being rebuilt for 2.0. The client/server relationship is also being improved upon. Yoshi has stated in a few interviews that the response time will be "comparable to World of Warcraft."

If anything I've noticed a considerable change to Ifrit, fought him tonight and his eruptions/plumes seemed to take much longer to "Activate"

Perhaps they nerfed him a bit to adress the lag.

But more to the point SE has stated they are trying to adress sever lag mainly in the 2.0 update when they have new servers to work with.

They should lengthen the wait duration by 2-3 seconds before the eruption of plumes and firepits. I mean the Japanese, for what I've seen, have this fight down to a second-nature by this time anyway.

:x god I cant wait... Server lag pisses me off so much. Hate when my cool downs are off or the fact that npcs still need to load when I walk near them.

The day that a Final Fantasy MMO is as snappy and responsive as World of Warcraft. *sighs wistfully* Can't freaking wait for 2.0.

I was kind of hoping they would resolve some of these issues during the server merge, but it seems they didn't, and now thanks to the increased server load, you're lucky if you can log in, got dc'd and after trying to log back in:

wont change till they make the client send pos to the server more than once a second, doubt the servers could handle it though

It's likely due to the larger than normal amount of people trying to log in all at the same time. The world can often handle the stress, it's the login server that usually sucks. Things will stabilize and work themselves out in time, be patient.
