Can the devs make tattoos on gear

Can the devs make tattoos on gear like jewelry? I don't like some rings or bracelets or necklaces I'd think others would like tattoos on their characters.
I think it would be easier on these items as to most ppl glamour the invisible items on them. Anyone else think this is a good way to expand on the glamour system! Ps id love to have a hand tattoos like roses and stuff.

There are a handful of items that give you tattoos, if that's all you're asking for. No jewelry though.

Also, since the thread linked above is old, a lot of the lv75 dungeon gear comes w/ tattoos.

Yes thanks I seen that post awhile back what I mean to say is would it be possible for the dev team to make glamour items like that but so u can equipped them to rings ect... Cause I don't wanna wear most those gear just the tattoos lol

I like the idea of linking such things to jewelry. It adds a lot more options for outfits to combine it with.

I would guess it might not work in their system. Main gear pieces don't just equip onto your character, they replace that section of the body model, including bare skin. So the tattoo would be part of that model.

Im pretty sure jewellery just sits on top of the model, so it might not be able to apply tattoos in the same way - they might float over the skin or do odd things, or just not fit properly. (I'm only guessing, but I think there might just be one shape used for all races.)

There's also some sort of priority system involved in that process to determine which gear piece replaces that portion of the body model. It's roughly based on how "close" to the body that gear piece is, so, for example, long gloves might cover the narrow sleeves of one shirt, but be covered by the wider sleeves of a different shirt. Tattoos, being right on the skin itself, should be at the closest rating in that priority system, to show only when no other gear covers that part of the body.

If that were the case, rings and bracelets would clip through gloves, and necklaces would clip through shirt collars. Instead, the system must be comparing the jewelry to gloves and shirts to determine whether it would be "covered" (hidden) or shown. That's most likely part of the same priority system that's comparing long gloves to sleeves and tall boots to pants.

Yeah, there's definitely a priority system in place, but I don't think it's that "smart".

Just going from what I see in the game, I think it works that body pieces have general rules about how they handle different lengths of arm gear, rather than judging on individual pieces. (And the same for how leg and foot gear interracts, but I'll just go with the one example here.)


So the rules for a three-quarter-length shirt might be something like:

- if handgear is full-arm, replace upper and lower arm with handgear
- if handgear is elbow-length, change upper arm to "tucked in" shape and replace lower arm with handgear
- allow bracelets


Or a robe with full-length sleeves that always stay 'on top' might be:

- if handgear is full-arm, do nothing. Only display hand section.
- if handgear is elbow-length, do nothing. Only display hand section.
- do not allow bracelets


Handgear definitely has rules over whether bracelets and rings display, so I think there might be a rule for bracelets on both the body and arm gear, and they only display if both gear pieces allow it.

Unlike the left-side "body parts" gear, the model is just the actual item. If body or hand gear (whichever wins the priority battle) has tattoos on the "bare skin" portion of its model, the character now has tattoos which are an integrated part of their skin. But a bracelet doesn't have an arm model attached to it, it's just the bracelet itself that appears over the wrist, so if it was possible to attach tattoos to that piece then they would presumably have to 'float' over the skin model rather than being part of it.

You'd also have the issue of the bracelet-tattoo not displaying if the other gear turns off bracelets - which it may do even if one arm is exposed, eg. the Eikon Leather Armguard (long glove on left arm, completely bare right arm) will hide bracelets even if they only display on the right wrist, suggesting a blanket rule of 'do not display bracelet' rather than deciding on it case-by-case.

Another example I can think of where the gear is definitely not dynamically judging how to overlap pieces was trying to combine the Demon Robe of Healing (which has flared three-quarter sleeves) and High Allagan Gloves (tight-fitting on the lower arm only). The gloves should fit neatly under the flared sleeves, but instead the sleeves tuck into the gloves.

It seems more likely that the sleeve rules for each piece is manually decided and programmed, although the thought process is going to usually be "things closer to the body have lower display priority".



All that said, yes it would be nice for them to work out more things to put in the jewellery slots. More scarves like the Redbill Scarf, cloth wristbands... actually it's a bit hard to think of things, which is perhaps why we don't have many options. But definitely reusing the scarf model with other colour options would be a start.

Demon Robe of Healing - with exposed neck and arms included in the model
High Allagan Gloves of Healing
Eikon Leather Armguards of Casting - the entire right arm is included in the model and would be handled like a long glove.
Republican Signifier's Fingerless Gloves - including bare arms and integrated tattoos
A bracelet - only the item, no body segments
