How do I search for a Free company in-game?
You can't. You'd have to personally ask to join one or watch out for /shouts in a major city state advertising them. You can also use Party Finder to say you want to join one or see if any ads are up.
There is also Lodestone which has a full listing, but you can't apply online. It's just there to show you they exist.
