Want to buy a house

So I've been saving up and have the gil to finally buy a house. Problem is I honestly don't know how to. I know you have to look for a lot that is open and then build the house within a certain timeframe but my problem is I don't know how to tell if a lot is available or going to be available soon or what. How do I tell? I know from reading on these forums that the chance of getting a lot is low but I don't even know what I'm looking for to compete.

Outside each house is a placard you can click which will allow you to buy the property in question if it is available. The issue is even once someone vacates a property there is a random timer that determines when that plot can be purchased and you'll be fighting against tons of other people spamming that placard... only to cry when after hours of spamming, someone else transfers their home from one location to the one you were hoping to buy.

Best of luck though... and if you can't manage to get a house there's always apartments, which, with some creative thinking, can be quite nice and feel surprisingly spacious.

If you are infact on Farmfrit I would recommend to grab a apartment first. Free wards are pretty rare and farming for them can suck out the joy of housing before you even get into it.

Apartments are a bit smaller than a small house but it let you play around with housing and if you feel like you are falling in love with this you can still consider going on a real house hunt.

Nicos apartment is a awesome example of what is possible even with an apartment.

Thanks for the heads up on the apartment thing. After last night losing a house I thought I understood to become available at 10pm I was seriously considering just getting an apartment instead but was apprehensive because I plan on allowing my boyfriend to join me. Some how with the grace of the gods I parked myself in front of another plot in the Goblet before logging off last night and when I logged in this morning before going to some appointments I saw it was still available & clicked "purchase" and sure enough I got the house! Shocked the hell out of me to be honest. Now to put a house on it and decorate the crap out of it....

As stated above to Nicodermus, somehow I managed to get a house today. I'm very happy that it happened. I was afraid that I would be stuck with an apartment but I managed to snag the house early this morning. Its plot 10 in Goblet ward 15 if you're ever on there. I plan on putting my settings as public so anyone can go in.
