Scholar Healing Question

I have been reading in the forums that most of the scholars have no issues healing and dpsing. My question is how? Whenever I'm in a dungeon and the tank is pulling wall to wall 3 groups we normally end back at the beginning. Two Groups are tight but 3 seems out of the question for me. ilvl is 451 avg starting rotation below. I don't have this issue on named in dungeons or in trials or raids. Just on large pulls. Any Advice?

pre pull Aldo > Mid pull Dots + Atherflow + Recitation+ Excog > End Aldo + Sacred Soil > lustrate "as needed" > Whispering Dawn > aldo > tactics + aldo and then it pretty much turns into spam with Hitting atherflow/lucid and then lustrate as soon as they come up. If i have enough for FeyUnion i normally throw that out as well.

don't forget seraph and dissipation if needed.

also u rely on the group's dps. if u have a crappy dps that takes all AoEs, can be problematic .. u don't want fights to be too long, coz that's when u just start spaming GCDs to keep the tank alive

It's important to remember with art of war you have time to throw out 2 aetherflow or fairy heals after each and every one. Swift doesnt have to be saved for a rez either, I'll often times use swift after AoW and then Adlo the tank mid pull. It's also important to remember a lot of it falls on the tank to use their CDs as well.

TBH I found that just keeping regen up is enough to stop the onslaught of healz. only 441 and I don't have any issues. I adlo the tank into a swift adlo drop sacred soil and whispering dawn then mash aoe. I tend not to lustrate because 600 potency is less than adlo after EMT so I adlo EMT adlo then adlo and continue to dps. Don't really use seraph much either. I personally don't excog until I want it to activate. it goes off quicker than lustrate anyway. Keep sacred up for the 10% mitigation and regen and keep whispering active as much as possible though.

I feel like using Recitation for the end Adlo works better than using it pre-pull for Excogitation, because the extra mitigation gives you more time to set up DoTs / Art of War / etc. Excogitation on the other hand will go off quite quickly if there’s a lot of enemies, so it might not give as much extra time for setup. I normally start with Recitation/Adloquium, spread if needed like against those bombs in Amaurot, then use the time to spam Art of War / DoT setup. Then throw Excogitation on just before the shield breaks to give even more DPS uptime, and usually by that point you’ll have had been able to set up everything needing to keep the tank’s HP comfortable (Soil/Dawn/Union/Seraph/etc) while you continue dealing damage.

Other Tips I can think of that may be useful:

Physick does have its uses like any other tool in the Scholar’s kit, so don’t be afraid to use it over Adloquium if the situation calls for it. It’s main benefit is that you can more easily throw oGCDs out without clipping GCD due to the 1.5s cast time, which is particularly useful if you want to supplement the heal with Lustrate to heal more HP without having to dedicate the MP to Adloquium or the possible GCD clipping from Emergency Tactics and Adloquium. Used alone, Physick won’t recover much health on a really big pull, but if combined with Adloquium or Aetherflow abilities it can become much more useful than it initially seems. Plus the 1.5 sec cast time makes it easy to slide around if you have to heal while moving but don’t have the Aetherflow for Lustrate etc (not that this is a common occurrence).

Don’t underestimate Fey Illumination; it’s easy to ignore it because the effect doesn’t seem great, but the extra healing can really make a difference if used in the right situation, and the extra damage reduction is nice too. Even though it only works on healing GCDs that you want to avoid using, even just getting it up for Recitation + Adloquium can make things go at least a bit smoother.

It feels weird calling Seraph in the middle of a random pull when there’s not some big AoE coming out, but even if there’s not much damage going out it’s still worth calling her in. Consolation and Seraphic Veil aren’t massively powerful, but since they stack with Galvanize/Catalyse they can supplement your current shields to create more uptime for setting up or dealing damage.

I think rotating between Whispering Dawn and Sacred Soil regens will give you more mileage in terms of DPS uptime than both together. While using both will give an even more powerful Regen, because they’re both on cooldowns it’s worth considering whether you want the regens to last longer or for them to be stronger.

I think the best way to describe how to be able to deal with any situation as a Scholar, is that you have to have a clear strategy for how you use your Aetherflow abilities and GCD spells in ways that supplement each other, which in turn allows you to maximise your DPS output more easily. Being able to change and adapt how you execute this strategy is the most important part of being able to keep the party healed whilst doing as much damage as possible. And I think it’s something that comes with experience more than anything, so even if you feel like you’re having trouble at the moment, if you keep at it soon you’ll realise you’re able to do this sort of thing as a Scholar without putting much though into it.

Sorry if this is stuff that everyone already knows, but they’re things I’ve found can really help on bigger pulls. There are definitely much better Scholars out with there with better tips than mine, so take it all with a grain of salt. I know Scholar seems to be the healing job that can cause the most difficulty because of having to weave gcd/oGCD, shields/regens, DPS/mitigation, all together at the same time. I’ve kinda always wanted to write a ‘guide for Scholar’, but I don’t think I’m skilled enough as a Scholar to write something like that lol. So hopefully it helps someone! (Or at least that’s what I’ll tell myself to justify writing such a ridiculous sized reply lol)
