Choosing which retainers are kept when canceling additional?

Hi all,
atm i've this retainers in order to creation date:
1-BOT
2-MIN
3-WHM
4-MIN
5-NIN
6-BOT
7-SUM
8-FSH

It's possibile to delete 4-6-8 and kept only DoW retainer? Someone say to "delete" extra retainer at retainer advocate in game..and then on my next subs?

What I do/did is dismiss the retainer I don't want from the advocate before the sub for that retainer expires.

When you open the retainer menu, the option in the corner is there to organize the retainer order. Just move the ones you don't want to the end.

Does that actually work when cancelling retainers though? I haven't tried it, but it would be very strange if it did since the game feels it's important to tell you what order your retainers were created in.

Not really going to work if you actually level your retainers, which someone with a bunch of DoL retainers almost certainly does.
